I thought really hard about this and realized both were quite talented so it's hard to pick. Although I do have to say that Yu~ki got a lot more chances to shine.

I wish he'd written more. :-/

It is a somewhat unfair question, who's to say who's better

A better question would be who's playing style do you prefer. I would pick Yu~ki.

But Kazuno doesn't have a playing style of his own. Mana writes everything, Kazuno has no input.

Kazuno bounces. That's pretty stylish to me. So his playing style is all...bouncy. And stuff. Because... he bounces.

....And gnashes his fangies. rawr-rawr-rawr.

....And bounces.

Oh, Yu~ki is an awesome bass player!! He's super talented, not just at bass, but at composing songs as well. Syunikiss was one of the best songs I've ever heard! As for Kazuno, I don't know what he's really capable of. Mana hasn't really shown his talent so I wouldn't know. But my vote's for Yu~ki!!!

OH MAN DIX ONE IS A TOUGHY!!!

I would really like to make a judgment, but it's impossible for me rite now, cuz i've only listen to Malice Mizer and Moi dix Mois for only bout a year or so. On top of that, I can't read music so i can't really compare... (sigh, knockin myself on the head) why didn't i take up some music when i was young??

Any who, I just can't decide until i've seen them perform the same kind of music. :(

I picked Yuki only because of his personality. I think Yuki and Kazuno are both equally great bass players, but I just think Yuki would be much better to be around than Kazuno (although Kazuno still looks like a laugh to be with).

Kazuno's bass plays no role in the music? How does that make any sense? o_O I bet you don't even notice it, but if it wasn't in there, you'd probably hear a huge difference.
This is based off of Dix Infernal only. I haven't heard anything else so I don't really know. It's just hard to explain, the presence of the bass is softer and less noticable, and also since Moi Dix Mois can occasionally bring about just a blurred image of music (this is not an insult in any way, I like it) so it's also a bit harder to point out certain things.
So that is why I have that opinion

*coughsSOLITUDEcoughs*

Yea.. it's a bassist thing >>

Yu~ki, of course...

Yuki has a much more complicated style. Well, its probably partly because of the genre of music too. Yuki was given a lot more freedom in his genre of music, but he did an excellent job with it. Kazuno is good if you like metal and whatnot, but overall, I'd say Yuki is much better.

I've given this a lot of thought recently, actually, really listening to Kaz closely and watching both groups live (on video).

Yu~ki's technique is admittedly really bad. It shows especially in the bara ni idorarete DVD. There's a really embarrassing part in kioku to sora, for instanvce.
Also, the chikasui myaku solo shouldn't really have been a solo bit. It's a great bassline, I think, but it felt awkward as a solo. Still, his emotion manages to pull me out of that idea, at least when I watch it.

Kaz's technique on the other hand strikes me as good. I'm a sucker for slap, too. And he really sounds like he knows exactly what note to pedal. Yeah, m10m is metal, but Kaz plays a VERY baroque idea of rock bass.

Yu~ki's lines are more loopy, Kaz plays well-chosen notes and lines. It's a matter of taste and I like them both, but I picked Kazuno.

Well said, and is it just me, or does Yu~ki's bass solo, mentioned above, seem a bit.. like a prerecording dub?

You think that Yuki's bass lines are loopy?? For instance, take a look at Perish... Its the same thing over and over. Compared to Yuki's lines in Au Revior or Bel Air, its nothing. Most m10m stuff has simple bass lines.

*simple*, maybe, but I find that the bass in m10m is has a lot more low end in the EQ for that "big scary gothic" sound. Also, I feel like his notes are 100% well-chosen. They compliment the guitar while not playing exactly what Mana is, he holds up the keyboard lines, etc. Sometimes with Yu~ki, I think, yeah, you're all over the place there which is cool, but I wish he'd picked better notes.
This is most notable on the memoire and Voyage albums in certain songs.
As I said, their good points are nearly equal yet different. It was the demerit I gave to Yu~ki's technique that influenced my decision overall.

This was a hard descision....but I chose Kazuno...I don't know why. Maybe because I listen more to Moi dix Mois then Malice Mizer...But I still love them !!! @_@
