Would everyone complain if Moi dix mois was shown on MTV?

We don't have to worry, because they wouldn't be.

actually i shouldn't really care if m10m (or any other band i like for that matter) is on mtv or not, because it won't make the music less good. unless of course they'd change their style to what mainstream people want, and in that case i'd be disappointed.

What would they show? Their live performances? O_o;

Somehow I would doubt that MTV would show a lot of Japanese music.. especially "elegant gothic metal."

But by performing at anime cons they are not becoming more independent from the anime connection, they are reinforcing it, and the more bands perform at anime cons the more the connection is reinforced. There is nothing wrong with selling CDs and merchandise at cons but I think concerts should be performed at concert venues. Cons aren't their only outlet to promote themselves either. In Europe the only Japanese band that ever played at an anime con was BLOOD. All the others played at normal concert venues and as far as I can tell (I haven't been following it very closely since I don't live in the US) D'espairs Ray aren't only playing at cons either.

I don't see anything wrong with J-Rock PVs being played on MTV though.

I'm really glad you said that, because I get the impression that lots of folks are pretty selfish about their jrock hobby. Kudos. ^_~

I wasn't being selfish; I only assumed that they would find it "too strange" or "different" to glue into our popculture... but I suppose that weirder things have been adapted.^^;;

But by even just starting out there, they could possibly build up a fan base, thus enabling them to do just regular tours. Now, this is purely in general and I'm not saying that this would be the best way for Mana to promote himself, I'm just saying that's one way to do it. Going straight into anything is risky without testing it out first. Once again, completely objective.

As for MTV, they should show it on that MTV channel that just shows videos all day. Granted the channel is dig cable/satellite (sp? my brain is fried from taking tests all day... x.x), but it would be an unbiased start in my oppinion because they show all sorts of vids on there...

Actually, I think MTV could me much improved if they showed a wider variety of music styles. I haven't had cable TV in years but I remember that UK and German MTV used to have late night "alternative" shows that weren't too bad (they weren't that alternative either though). They can show J-Rock at 3.00am if they don't want to waste their best slots on it but I wouldn't mind if they did show it (as long as they don't present it like some kind of freak show or "the kawaii boys of band xyz" but as music in its own right).

I agree that it would be better for them to play it. XD It would be great to see more variety.

I haven't watched MTV in so long, because all it is nowadays is hiphop crap. If they started showing J-rock pvs, I'd turn it on in a heartbeat. And besides, it'd be good if they showed them- it would give people a chance to diversify. Hell, even jpop would be alright with me, and if MTV still whines about it, I suppose a few Koda Kumi's would make up for the missing hiphop. As long as it's Japanese, and introduces people to alternative music, I'm all for it.

I'd be one of the freaks who'd stay up till 3am to see the pvs too.

I don't know what sort of MTV you're watching because I don't see any music at ALL. I see shit like "Real World" and "Made" and "Washed Up Celebrities Degrade Themselves and Others for Attention".

And... I like some hiphop. :-/ Granted it's all from the '80s and only a coupla years into the 90's, but hey.

There's a channel, I can't think of the name of it right now, that only plays music videos and plays once a day TRL. Otherwise, it's strictly videos. However, you can only get this channel if you've got digital cable or satellite (I assume satellite has it, too). :roll:
