I only know a few words, mainly for calling somebody names... but my vocabulary of Japanese is steadily building up... Not to mention that I have a Japanese cousin by marriage ^_~ She taught me the art of cracking my thumb...lol

I would love to learn the language as well as any other language. Knowledge is power, you can never have enough.

I chose 'because I like some other aspect of Japanese culture', because I have a general interest in Japan. Also, I just quite like the language.

I totally agree... I have a semi-knowledge of about 5 different languages (Not including my native tongue) knowledge is most definately power.

I started to learn about two years back mainly because I have a general interest in the culture. I have ever since learning about Japan as a child. Everything seemed so artistic in a way.

I'm trying it on my own but so far it isn't turning out so well...my friends would beg to differ, but that's just because they only know about...maybe ten words. I guess on a casual fan level it's pretty good, but for someone who wants and needs to be fluent for a variety of reasons, it sucks. *sigh* Maybe since summer will be here in an hour and forty-five minutes, I'll have better luck.

Meh...I like Mana a lot (and trying to understand him/his songs has greatly increased my vocabulary), but I guess it started with my being interested in Japan in general.

I love this thread, seeing as Mana doesn't talk. ^__^

Mana does write lyrics and do interviews though. Did we forget that part? >_>

....oh come on. You know what I meant. I didn't say it was a stupid thread or pointless. Don't you think it's the slightest bit funny to say you're learning a language to understand someone who won't ever open their mouth? :P

*Because I like some other aspect of Japanese culture* I think I would learn it if I'm going to stay in Japan for a long period of time :)

Well...I would like to learn Japanese not only to understand Mana, but also other people(Kaya or Hora, for example)...and to be able to write my letters and emails in their mother language, not English,so I would be (more or less)100% sure they understood me...and I don't like to use online translators, because they are...pretty much useless.
Oh,and to not get lost and die if I went to Japan one day,of course^^

I choose "music in general".
I'm a really big fan of Mana. But spending months and months, just to learn japanese to understand him? That really stupid!
I mean he should be the one learning English, having so much fans that speak that language! It's more easier. Besides this way he wouldn't have to pay for any translator...
