I want that shirt now

As much as I like Malmsteen he's the center of many jokes between my friends and I. We all like his music but when you got CD covers like Trilogy and just....well it can't be helped xD He's easier to poke fun at then Mana. There was a day in my Graphics class and we turned almost every joke into a joke about Malmsteen. I think we had a record going that day :P

So anyway his music, yeah it's cool. I like it but sometimes it's a bit boring. Sure yeah cool guitar this and that but just sort of boring after awhile. I can only listen to him for so long, I guess it's because I'm not a guitarist.

I think his orchastra/instrumetal stuff is freaking awesome though.

I also think a lot of guitar players agree that Yngwie is a great player but lacks melody and soul.. Speed is not everything.

I'm sure it would be a great form of punishment to force Seth and K to pronounce "Yngwie Malmsteen" on stage with no mistake (Yeah, and Friedrich Nietzsche, why not...?)

I think most people here can't say this name on a stage without making a mistake o_O I don't think I could

Yes, it is  "Qui veut gagner des millions ?" (Who wants to win millions ?) ::bleh::

The question was "Which German philosopher was a friend of composer Richard Wagner ?"

I've never understood the fascination with Yngwie Malmsteen. Okay, he knows his harmonic minor scale and can sweep pick. Good job!

Malmsteen's guitar skills go way beyond that, give the guy a little credit. He has a whole arsenal of guitar techniques at his fingertips. The sweep picking is his bread and butter is all. I mean really would we all be here talking about the guy if it weren't for the hyperspeed sweep picking?

And hey the guy composed an entire Concerto Suite. Gotta give the devil his due there.

I wouldn't say he lacks melody. He plays neo-classical, can't avoid having melody in that genre (unless someone starts playing some Neo-Lizst ^_^). Soul is in the ears of the behearer. And speed, while not everything, sure is damn impressive sometimes.

But, if I get what you mean by soul (that it seem like his playing substitutes emotional investment for technical virtuosity) I can sort've back you there. But then sometimes the technical virtuosity is what I like about a musician.

I did listen to him when I was 12 years old.. old rainbow stuff too..
His playing is goodl, I like the operatic things he does. But even some guitarists have to take one for the tema, if that makes sence?? Like slow down for the sake of a good song..
I watched some of his instructional stuff on you tube.. And was like?? Huh?? he was not teaching anything, he was just like, look at me play five thousand scales and apegeo notes. he He. it was quite funny..

Yngwie is most definately an amazing guitarist, no question about that.

He's got insanely good technique. Whether or not he's an ass doesn't always matter.. lol

My biggest problem with him is that he doesn't put much emotion into his music. If you look at other virtuoso guitarists such as Petrucci or Vai, you'll see what I'm talking about.
