hey,
does anyone know anything about Zigzo, other than Tetsu and Sakura were in it? ^^;

i only saw two of their PVs and i love their style :]
(Himiwari and Tonight, I Will Fall)

is Zigzo still around? (i know tetsu's not in it anymore)
how many albums did they release?
did they do much progress/do well over the years?

+ + + +

and a bit off topic to this thread, but is Mega 8 Ball and Nil's style similar to Zigzo?

Zigzo is already disbanded. They went major and had a relative success, i guess. Their style is similar to nil. on the other hand, Mega8Ball is like a mix of rock and rap.

Originally this band was started as a session band in March of 98 with Den, Ryo, and Sakura. Den and Ryo were in the band By-Sexual since 1988 when they were 18 years old, and even after they're lead singer left in 1996 they continued on as 'By-Sex' which was fronted by Ryo until the original drummer left in early 98 which most likely led to them hooking up with Sakura.

Mega8ball had ended in late 97, most likely prompted because Rikiji went on to Oblivion Dust, and Tetsu started nil wrote a few songs and performed a series of shows. He then joined Zigzo in mid 98 and they worked on songs for a year, I'm unsure of whether or not he was apart of Zigzo while he was still in nil, it seems like a long time between him joining Zigzo and them actually debuting.

In any case, there first show was in February of 99 and they were labeled as "MARISU~AN~SEKKUSU", probably a combination on Tetsu, Sakura, Den, and Ryo's former band's names... Malice Mizer, L'arc en ciel, By-Sexual. A month later the name "Zigzo" was announced for an April show, Zigzo being a romanized way of their pronounciation of the english word "jigsaw", quite fitting considering their varied backgrounds.

There first single came out July 1st, chi to ase to namida no uragawa no happy de, and then an album (Monster Rock) followed shortly after. They recorded steadily releasing another album (add9 suicide) in late 2000, and by 2001 and things slowed down with only two new singles really coming out, world introduction released in early 2001 was recorded in the add9 sessions.

And Tetsu started seeing his former nil band members in early 2002 and Zigzo announced their final shows in March of 2002.

Most of Zigzo's music is great, with the exception of a few clunkers, add9suicide is a classic in my book. probably one of my top 3 jrock albums from anything that's come out in the last 10 years.

I bought By Sexual's CD "Cracker" on a whim, and it turned out to be really good! The cover is incredibly conplex and has so many foldout parts o_O

I have to admit, I'm not a fan of Zigzo ^^; Tetsu's voice seems a lot more normal and less emotional then it did in Malice Mizer which may appeal to some, but I wasn't too impressed, unfortunatly ^^;

I haven't heard much of By-Sexual, and the stuff I have heard seems to be a little fluffy, bouncy, poppy, definitely the stuff in Zigzo's catalogue which I find less attractive. But I probably should listen to them some more and give them a chance since the guitar/bass work on Zigzo is great.

For the longest time I was pretty disgusted by Zigzo, my first introduction to them was their PV for 'himawari' and I found it extremely annoying for one reason or another. Maybe it the change in vocals from the Malice Mizer Tetsu I was familiar with, or the total opposite musical direction he had taken. So I can see where you're coming from^^ The music does seem pretty average at times but his voice brings the work above and beyond, imo. While not as noticeable, his vocals can be just as heart wrenching as his MM work. It's interesting to point out, that in the Mega8Ball cd there is a special thanks for Tetsu's 'Trainer', Mari Yoneda, who I just googled and found quite promptly:

A conscious effort on his part to change his style or make his voice stronger?...who knows...

From personal experience I found that high-quality ZIGZO pictures are somewhat difficult to obtain. So, just in case you were looking or were going to look, here's someone's Photobucket account with a decent collection of ZIGZO photos. It can be located here.

Everything they performed in concert was released on an album or single, with the exception of two By-Sex songs they performed in their first few shows. strawberry shampoo, risokyou, and need your love were originally penned by by-sex. The first one showed up on the single for Zigzo's tonight I will fall, and the second one was recorded by test-no (den+ryo's current band) in 2002.

Here is a site dedicated to By-Sexual and all projects related to it's members, Zigzo included:

Thanks~~ I haven't seen some of these before. Here's another one that hasn't been updated in years. It has all of the lyrics romanized too~~

You're most welcome, but I suppose we should thank the person who uploaded all those pictures. ;)

As for that site, I love it. It's pretty much the only ZIGZO site with complete lyrics. Just a shame there's no translation for them.

True True... I never tried contacting the person(s?) involved and kinda figured they moved on. But yea translations would be nice, the only I've done is for a line to exit, by far one of their best that they only played a few times live if at all, I still haven't seen any mention of this track in live reports. I find most of their album only tracks are better than their singles, the 1-2-3 punch of fukai mori ni ita, a line to exit, and mou nidoto aenai kimi he at the end of add9suicide is simply marvelous. ^^ enjoy, the translation below, it was much labored over but it added a whole new level of depth to the song which I already loved.

a line to exit

For a while now, since long ago
This box's
confining darkness runs about
My beloved, My Beautiful, I just
want to go see you at your house
Coming out of a long tunnel
I want to see lovers laughing, the elderly smiling,
and me coughing violently alone

I can no longer hold the bouquet I embrace
Making a smile in the reflection on the window
The heart is full to capacity with love
I only have one wish

For a while now, since long ago
Memories shimmer
like fluorescents

I can no longer hold the bouquet I embrace
Making a sad looking smile in the reflection on the window
The heart is full to capacity with love
I only have one wish
to have all of those irreplaceable things you said
Where do you think you're going? Don't go! Stay here! You're Lying!
You're like the rumbling of trains
And the swaying of flower!

It's what you are!
It's what you are!
I'm just
I'm just
trying to be honest...

Wow. Thanks for the translation! And I totally agreee, it does give more depth to the song. Do you happen to have anymore translations? And if not are you thinking about it?

I'll be sure to do a search when I get some free time. I'll post back here if any translations are found.
