Well, when the avatar looks like a girl, and you don't say anything that defines yourself as male (like, "After flirtin' with sum sexy dames I scratched my hairy chest and headed for the urinals"), it's probably just a natural assumption.

It doesn't mean that you're particularly effeminate or anything.
