I don't know. Gackt's been sniffing glue lately or something. Everything he's been putting out these days is like some sort of horrible joke to punish anyone who's ever honestly liked him and his work. I half wonder if he's doing it all on purpose and intentionally trying to be bad? He's like, "Look at these idiots- they'll love anything I put out, even if it's shit!" ::blowup::

Sorry, but I will have to disagree. Just because you may not like his recent music doesn't make it shit. And it doesn't make the people who enjoy it dumb and undiscerning like you try to imply here.I like his recent releases and I find it better than some of the music he's been releasing previously, especially Returner which I considered to be one of his worst songs.

His newer music may be marginally different from what he's been doing since the beginning of his solo career but its not just random junk he's releasing because he feels he can make money of off anything. All of the newer releases since Jesus were written specifically for the Requiem et Reminiscence II concert tour. Which was intended to tell a meaningfull story about war and what it does to people. Yes some of the songs may seem silly and inane but they aren't random. My Fathers Day was a memorial to Ogata Ken who he considered his mentor. And Koakuma Heaven was written as a satire of bar hostesses and was intended for that game I just posted of him and the band playing. Koakuma Heaven's music and lyrics don’t fit in with the story of the concert but it wasn’t supposed to it was intended to be an upbeat excursion from an otherwise serious story.

Gackt may not be trying to exemplify every Goth cliché in the book and may have committed the crime of crimes of releasing a few happy songs but he does have a clear artistic vision in what he's doing and isn't just releasing shit.

You've ridiculously misjudged me here, and I'll explain in the next couple paragraphs.

I didn't imply anything about my feelings in the slightest towards fans in general or peoples' tastes. My remark there was merely agitated supposition and meant to be taken as such. I would have figured the exaggeration would have given that sort of thing away, but clearly you didn't get it.

About your opinion of Returner, sure, it was a horrible song, that's how come it was his only one to ever reach #1 on oricon. ::bleh::

It's interesting what you said about the concert, but regardless, he can write the most complex story on earth and set it to musical glasses, but that still won't help it if what he's putting out just doesn't match the quality of what he has in the past. THAT is what is so disappointing here.

Have I ever mentioned gothic anything? Now, you've unfairly judged me. Simply because I don't think his voice fits things like Koakuna Heaven doesn't mean I want him DIX'd out for every song, because he's never been like that to begin with. Epic songs suit him better, or did, until he decided to kill himself and change his voice. <--(more exaggeration there, btw)

You're lucky that you can simply enjoy most of whatever he seems to put out for whatever reasons you have, but for me, he's set a bar for himself, and it's a very, very clear bar. These past few years, with the exception of Returner, he's not come anywhere close to that bar. With Gackt including many CRESCENT songs on newer releases, especially around the time when he said he was going to quit in 2010, to me this indicated that he knew it, too. When he did Furin Kazan, he was reinspired and Returner was the product of that. Still, I think it's carrying him through to continue and scrap his 2010 retirement ideas, and every so often, I can detect hints of him trying to regain his touch.

Do I think he has no idea what he's doing? Of course not- I think he knows EXACTLY what he's doing, which is what confuses me slightly. He had all these lofty ideas and was succeeding at meeting his goals, and then somewhere it fell apart, and he, in my opinion, lowered his standards some to compensate for whatever provoked the change, and he's trying to deal with the gap in between now and then in order to carry on ever since.

That's my perspective on the matter at least. Of course, you could tear it to shreds, but I'm honest with my thoughts because I care. If I didn't care, I wouldn't have even bothered to write anything for you to get pissy over to begin with.

I dunnu, maybe it's just me, but I thought that performance looked like a lot of fun! A lot of choreography and planning went into it, and the song was really catchy. I dunnu, I really liked it and I wouldn't mind seeing it live~~~

Whether your statement was a supposition and used exaggeration is irrelevant. The mere fact that the statement was made at all carries the implication. Also Returner making number 1 doesn't prove that it is good ,that is just an appeal to popularity.

Its amazing that you can make the claim that you didn't intend to imply anything negative about peoples tastes. But then claim in your response
"but for me, he's set a bar for himself, and it's a very, very clear bar"
as if those who disagree with you had no such standard. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Your argument contains several factual errors as well. All of the compilations he has released in recent years contains songs from most of his albums as well as single releases and showed no preference for Crescent over his new releases. 0079-0088 contained three Crescent songs and two post Crescent releases. Drug Party contained two Crescent songs and four post Crescent Releases. Gladiator evolution contains three Crescent songs and three post Crescent releases. All of them show a near even distribution of his work prior to Crescent as well as newer work. No were is there evidence that he thinks that his post Crescent work is inferior to his Crescent and earlier work. You may believe that to be true but Gackt certainly doesn't.

Also he never said he intended to retire in 2010. He said he might retire if his health wasn't that a good. He has said before that he might retire due to health reasons in 2004. He has said during the Diabolos tour that he would retire if couldn't complete the Diabolos tour. In fact he even stated in an interview that the only reason he bothers to make such claims is because he has no intentions of carrying them out. Its a bluff just like when people say things like "OMG, I'm going to kill my self if I don't get a PS3".

I feel the same. I think it is a really nice song., and his last releases Jesus, Journey and Koakuma pleased me a lot.

@Dogfight: Your post was full of so much whine that I had to break the cheese out from the fridge. Here- if you really want to insist on being offended, go for it. This site is owned by an american and therefore falls under US law, so I'm completely free to say that this is indeed a free country and you certainly have the right to feel as abashed and insulted as you want.

Cheers.

Me too! I'm hoping that they'll all be put on an album so I can get them all in one place~ I don't think I'd have room in my suitcase for collecting all Gackt's singles when I return to the states o_O

How clever. Wait, I've got one for you:

I thought their extreme robot dancing was amazing. I could barely get through my 5 minute choir audition dance, but Gackt's all like
BEEP BEEP BOOP BOP

Navate, with all due respect, I didn't start with the attitude- if anything, I matched what I was given but nothing was said to them at first, but only to me now. You've been back less than a week and are already on my tail. What's up with that? ::weepy::

Sorry, Kyu; as I read it, yes you did.

Dogfight's first comment was his/her own fair-minded opinion. You then brought in an attitude with your responding rant. Then when Dogfight dared to respond back, you just throw some snarky (and incredibly wtf/irrelevant) little comment. "I'm right and you're stupid, so shut up!" The ranty bits; whatever. I could do without them but, eh, heated discussions happen. That last comment, however, is not called for and you know better.

You need to learn to control your tone and not take up an attitude every time someone questions or disagrees with your opinion. Because you do it constantly.

I'm not after you. I just can't figure out how half the time you make intelligent posts, and the other half you're belittling and mocking the first person who says "boo" to you. Stop doing it, and I'll stop getting on your tail. I don't enjoy acting the part of a grade school teacher telling the kids to play nice. So do me a favor, eh? Play nice. ;)

^ My main reason for my last reply is because it's pointless arguing over what you think another person's point of view is- in this case, mine. I said I wasn't taking hits, that my original post to begin with meant mostly as a joke as per the wording used, and to have them come back and say, "No, that isn't what you're doing," when really, I think I know my own mind- that sort of thing just isn't worth my energy right now. Therefore, I told dogfight to do whatever.

Just....really, really not worth my stress right now arguing over what another person thinks I'm thinking. If someone's not going to believe my own clarification on my own opinion and is going to tell me that they know what's in my head better than I do.....you can see the repetition here. XD

Anyway, I understand your position. Please count it off as frustration and a desire to quickly end a potentially endless argument instead of dragging it on, which, I admit, has most certainly been more my style in the past. :)

If you want to end it, do so politely. If you want to drag it on, also do so politely. There is no excuse for acting otherwise, so don't try offering me any. :)

Well, I've said that as long as Gackt's singing in his 'original style' on a song that I wouldn't complain, so I'm not complaining!

No, the song's not that bad, but Gackt's fixation on being a robot these days is kinda silly. ::meev::

That was awesomely ridiculous  I especially liked the opening shot, reminds me of old action movies.
But I don't get it, neither the words nor the music were by Gackt? And something to do with Kamen Rider?
