I will study hard and learn my Kana. I really want to learn Japanese...
I have been trying for a couple years but i get off track a lot and i didnt have much learning material...I need a lot of help. My university doesnt offer Japanese. :(

My high school offered German and Spanish. That's it.

I don't think my university offered Japanese either, though I wouldn't have taken it even if they had because I started in 1995 and I didn't care about anything having to do with Japan at that point and why take something really hard when I can take something really easy like Latin.

Hi, I couldn't very well scan through 6 pages of posts, but I wanted to post this link here:

It's a rather large sample of a very good book. The only downside I find in this is that it has romaji rather than furigana. It has several sentence patterns that exemplify grammar points. But it covers most of the basics and the explanations are succinct and clear. At the beginning you have the patterns, then the explanations and small exercises, at the end you have quick appendices that are useful. The book is also very portable. I'm currently using it to revise some topics I learned a while back, but I think it would be useful for people starting their Japanese studies.
