I just listened to it though I don't know what you're talking about O.o;; Maybe it just sounds similar to something else you heard?

Hmm... I don't think so... I doubt MALICE MIZER was the type of band to reproduce any other work... They're 100% original! ^-^

Much agreed, however there are a few times where one song will sound like anothe one of theirs (mainly to people who don't listen to them alot) my mom thinks all of their music sounds the same.
But madrigal sounded nothing like anything else anywhere in the song, then again I was never fond of it...

My dad once commented that part of Sakai no Chi to Bara sounded a lot like one of Bach's pieces. I myself wouldnt know, but I don't doubt him.

Mana's pretty into classical himself; I could see him incorperating the old masters' works into his own.

Mana has a lot of influences from Bach in his harpsichord compositions, but he also did that little part of Beethoven's "fur elise" in Baroque and Mozart's Turkey March in Madrigal.

BTW the piano in monophobia sounds a lot like Beethoven's Clair de Lune to me ~_~

Whenever I'm asked to describe the music I listen to, I usually mention Malice and of course get a resounding "huh?" Basically, I describe them as Japanese glam rock with extensive baroque and classical influences.

Mm... Bach.

I wouldn't call it stealing. Being a huge fan of baroque era classics, I can't see myself -not- (even unintentionally) carrying the influence into my original pieces, much like I would probably draw influence from American alt rock, German underground, and Japanese vk. It's something that I enjoy, and that influences me greatly as a person.

If the Turkish March speaks to Mana, then I guess we're bound to see it pop up somewhere.

Kind of like the theory that all literature ever published is both influenced by past literature and will influence future literature - I think that musically the same thing happens. I mean come on, there's only so many ways you can combine a certain set of chords before you start getting things that sound similar. The more you enjoy or are influenced by a certain piece or composer, the more likely you are to run into coincidences or similarities.

But meh, that's just my two yen.

I think the break from Musette shows up in Kurotokage...which was from the early 80's. You know, when they're loading the doll-girl into the car...?

Anyway, Malice maybe DOES use other people's stuff more than your might think ^_~

They could've used little tidbits, though I'm sure musicians often come up with the same thing without knowing.

Malice Mizer used a lot of bits of classical songs... there used to be a Japanese website that had them all on them, but I don't know if it's still around. Madrigal was from Mozart's "Rondo Alla Turca", and Baroque was from Beehoven's "Für Elise".
