we all know malice mizer doujinshi exist
we've seen them on ebay
but they all seem to be dumb ass made up stories that fans make up "what if mana owned an ice cream shop, duh huh huh huh..."
"what if Kozi was a clown? duh huh huh"

yeah, dumb shit like that. putting malice mizer memebers in goofy situations that almost seemily inexplicably leads them to getting in bed together...

but has anyone ever tried a comic adapatation of Bara no Konrei? I tihnk THAT would be awsome...
if it hasn't been done, I think I'd be up to the job
the only question is... where does one get such things published?
any suggestions? pointers?

Well..do you want to sell it? Meaning..if you're going to publish it, are you going to ask money for people to read it? Otherwise you can publish it yourself ofcourse :) where? On the internet naturally :D
If you are going to publish it for money, then I *think* you're supposed to give Malice Mizer credits and such? o.0 Since you're using their story and names and everything...

Er, actually, if you want to get really technical--you need their permission. It's their story and characters, costumes, etc. Since it has been made into a tangible form already (the movie) and he'll be simply drawing the movie out, he's creating a work directly from an already created (and therefore copyrighted) material. So, since he's planning to publish and distribute it, he needs permission from the copyright holders as well and give full credit to both the band and those involved in filming and sitributing the movie. And if he plans to charge for it... that's called commercial use, so in an ideal world it'd go so far as him owing a royalty to the copyright holder.

If he doesn't charge for it and distributes it freely, he could techinically go without contacting the copyright holder about it, though he still must give full credit to the original material.

Of course, I highly doubt you'd get in trouble if you DID sell it without consulting Midi+Nette. Because everyone sucks and copyright is utterly ignored and abused. But I would hope that, you, being a fan enough of their work to go and create something of your own out of it, would take THEIR rights into consideration and not profit blindly off of something that does not belong to you.

This is Navate, your average just-good-enough-to-have-her-work-stolen internet artist all too familar with the ignored concept of copyright and ugly truth of art theft in this gorgeous digital world, signing out. ::coffee::

i did plan on crediting them in the book itself of course

I seriously don't tink it would sell well even if I tried, so free distribution seems the way to go in my opinion.
The goal of this was not to make money, I jsut wanted to reate a quality Malice Mizer comic, and since I don't trust myself to come up with an original story good enough to suit them, my own adaptation of thier vampire movie seemed the best idea to me at the time.
I have high hopes for this project

If you know anything about doujinshi in Japan, you'd know that companies tend to ignore it. Why else would Comiket be such a big event, when most of the doujinshi sold is based on other people's work? The point is, if you could sell your doujinshi, there is still such a limited market for it that it's not like it's taking profit away from Malice Mizer (seeing as they don't publish doujinshi about themselves... except for that one book). Just don't expect to make any money off it.

This is the attitude I'm talking about. 'No one cares, so it's okay.' Just because it's ignored by certain people does not mean it's okay. Just because it doesn't take away profit does not mean it's okay (Though techniically in this case, it would be taking profit anyhow, since under legal circumstances MM would be entitled to royality. Even if it's only a few cents, that's still considered profit.) It's entirely dependent on the artists' policies.

But I'm not really talking about the topic. As I stated above, I know most people turn a blind eye towards most copyright infringement. Unless it's a large sum of money being made off of their stolen work, it's alsolutely pointless to pursue and therefore artists are forced to ignore it. It's quite a sad state. =\ Can't stop anyone from doing it -- all anyone can do is try to educate people about it. But of course, no one teaches such stuff in schools. Most people don't even know what the word "copyright" means.
