I've read the popular manga series Paradise Kiss, and I didn't know it was in any way related to EGL. (I learned about mm differently, but anyway) I've vbeen looking at this article for some time now and finally decided to share it.

It mentions Malice Mizer, Dir en grey, Gackt, etc. I just thought we could talk about it.

ParaKiss ~isn't~ related to EGL. Nor does it portray it. Miwako is just Lolita or Country Lolita. Not EGL. TP's claims are overstated. I think they need to stop writing about anything not-manga :|

I bought it a couple days ago and am totally excited to read it.. in fact, now that you remind me I may as well go read it now...... I'm only sitting on my ass afterall...... but OMG I love Paradise Kiss..... some of the outfits from the series do look kinda visual kei-ish, but I never really connected Paradise Kiss with EGL/EGA.... :?

I didn't think anything was EGL, well, a bit of Miwako was, but I never heard of EGL/EGA When I read PK. But, yeah...I know the author (Yazawa Ai) likes EGL, etc. But i kinda noticed in Princess Ai (Yazawa Ai did the character sketches) there was a bit EGL... I'm going to be harassed for saying that

I rather enjoy Paradise Kiss. The story's a bit cliche, of course, but it's also got some interesting stuff and I absolutely love the art^^

but yeah, that article could've done for some more research. (X-Japan and Gackt have influenced EGL? o.O umm....) I did notice some lolita-ishness in some of the fashion in the manga, but it's not entirely gothic lolita. What I've seen of the magazine FRUiTS is very... not goth. And gothic lolita at places like Hot Topic? Only in our dreams. I stuck my head in there once on a trip and found the only things worth buying were some lipstick and a pair of fishnets (which are oddly difficult to find where I live)

anyway, thanks for sharing the article ^^

Hot Topic has put some lacey things out lately. Hardly GL, though. (No, I do not like that store. It's just the only one around here that carries witty, cult female-cut tshirts)

And that article is kinda ridiculous. o_0 Dir en grey and pop-star Gackt, having something to do with EGL? Jesus H. -_-

If Hot Topic ever carried "EGL" stuff it would fall apart after the first time you put it on like all the other low quality crap they sell.

they sell "lolagoth" perfume. I called it a bastardization of the gothic lolita style and the manager got mad at me. Then she decided I was cool.

Haha, how did she decide your cool?

Yeah, heh, I actually didn't notice they mentioned X Japan and gackt, etc, influincing EGL. Its either their A) Stupid, B) Don't like to look stuff up, or C) Don't care (refer to A).

LOL @ bastardization of EGL!

I read PK months ago, but I didn't get to read the final volume completing the series. I loved the artwork, and I thought Miwako was cool  She could use a spine sometimes though. As I was reading the series, I did notice some similarities, distantly nonetheless, with VK style. Miwako was definately lolita (not what I'd call goth-lolita though,) and lovely Isabella vaguely reminded me of Mana crossed with Boy George. But to say that this series is affiliated with the EGL scene? Now that's taking it too far. If it did tie in with the EGL scene, we'd see a more gothy theme throughout the story with perhaps a vampire or two. Hot Topic and EGL, eh... The closest tie I've seen between the two was that cloying LolaGoth odor and the cheesy square pins with lame sayings like "I make lots of friends" or something.

He's right you know... The only thing decent in that infernal rat-hole are their band shirts, and even then I try to avoid the cave of stink at all costs..... ugh. Horrible place, it is..... horrible, horrible place....... ~_~

Having previously been employed by Barf Topic, I can affirm that they haven't the slightest clue about J-Rock, VK, or Gothic Lolita style.... I've seen a couple remotely GL-style items once or twice, but for the most part they sell enormous chained pants to smelly juggalos...... ugh........ can we talk about manga again....?! :|

Sorry, have to add this in: If its a few item from there, I supopose its ok, like little things, but what hits me the most about hot topic, is that it's owned by places like old navy and anchor blue...kinda funny how there completely different. I've seen a shirt in HT that had a circle with a slash thingy in middle (can't remember what thats called) and it said Preppies in the middle, but...then again...there owned by "preppy" stores. Ok...manga!! Has anyone read fruits basket?
