Since it doesn't make much sense that people should get absolute authority for scanning an image, would the majority of members see it favorably to use the images collected on the forum in the main site?

I propose flowers add a clause to the user agreement (Is there such a thing?) that says that any material submitted to the forums becomes usable on the main site.

edit: word choice

I'm kinda on the fence about this. On the one hand, they don't deserve the copy/usage rights to it because they didn't create it or anything; but on the other hand, it can be difficult and expensive to find the materials to scan sometimes, so they do sort of deserve credit for going through the trouble and then making it available for us to see.

I think we should add photos to the -scape- site, but we should ask permission first or people should "donate". I don't think we should just copy-pasta whatever comes up on a Google image search. We should know who scanned them (preferably someone from the -scape- community) and we should credit them when we post it to the website.

Oh, and I support that clause!

EDIT: Obviously I didn't read carefully enough since you specified pictures "on the forums". Yeah, I think we should just take whatever was posted on the forums and add it to the main site with a credit to whoever posted it (unless they said in their post that they don't want people using the image w/o permission. In that case, let's ask for permission). If they get butthurt about it, we can take down their scan and find someone else who's willing to make a scan of the same thing, if possible.

I'm not saying post without credit. That would be pretty rude and unfair to the people who took the effort to acquire and scan the stuff, like you said. But I think that crediting a person with generating the image should be sufficient enough "payment" for sharing the image. A silly watermark with "{member} @ scapeforums.com" would be perfect.

Hell, I'd watermark all the stuff myself, if it meant we could have tons of images on the main site again.

Yeah, I edited my post. I like the watermark idea too. Would you really do all the watermarks? I could help with that maybe. I don't have Photoshop, but I have GIMP which has most of the same capabilities, except harder to use and with an uglier interface.

Yeah, I'd do it. Realistically, it's not something I can start on until mid March, but if it helps bulk up scape.sc, I wouldn't have any problem doing it. It'd be sweet if you could help.

I guess all we really need is Flowers' permission? (GIMP is so hard to use. I've never really been able to learn it.)

I've always kind of been ambivalent about collecting images from magazines and such because it seems kind of lame to go out and scan stuff right off the shelves and put it up on the main site. Keeping it in the image thread seemed like a reasonable compromise.

I'll think about what to do though. I guess if everyone wants it maybe we could.
Incidentally, there's already a "credit" field if you click the large version of any of the pictures.

I would agree with you if the source material wasn't so scarce, flowers. Since everything is out of print now, and so hard to come by, I think it would be kind of neat if scape became a bit of a library of images from when they were still active.

Getting butthurt over people reusing your scans is stupid, get the fuck over it.

I have a scan site here with a lot of hard to find magazine material and have found people reusing the images. I don't care if someone resuses it and doesn't credit, it's only when I catch a retard pretending that they are the ones that scanned it. Then I'm going to call them out on it but otherwise I didn't scan this stuff so that no one could see it.

Since Flowers has standards and this isn't a 90s Geocities shit site and will credit the original scanner, they can get the fuck over themselves.

I want it. I don't see a difference from posting the pictures on the forum to posting them to the website, provided that there will be credit given to the scanner (and since we already have a field for credit it won't be a problem).

I just think that there's a lot of material here that could be made more accessible for future fans without them having to wade through old 100 page threads.

I also think it would also show more of a variety of pictures. I mean, the ones on the website are mostly common (like the Cyborg and Garnet Malice Mizer ones) and more scans would definitely be make the web site more interesting. We have so many rare pictures here that we haven't showcased yet.

And we could look at whoever has posted pictures of Kozi here and just put them on the website because he only has 2. o_o (This bothers me.)

Do it! The main site looks really empty. Also it is true that there should not be any problem to show the pictures on the website since they have been already shared by the user in the MM picture topic.

Hahaha, yeah. Two new votes showed up after my post. But that's probably all that will result.
