I don't mind some bands that drop their visual image. For instance I actually thought Raphael looked better when they dropped their visual look because sometimes I thought they just looked goofy :P

I think that the only problem now that DeG lost their image was that Shinya keeps trying to look mad in photos. It just looks kinda silly. :P

He does? I think he looks as indifferent as ever. His face hasn't changed in pictures for years now.

Shinya's the only one who's not all ANGER! ZETSUBOU! SHAMPOO HAET!

As much as I admit to liking him girly better, I can find no room to criticize with Toshiya looking like a greasy homeless man right next to him.

AWWWWWW.
Raphael had some of my favorite visuals I've seen on any band. Sure, Yuki and Kazuki looked a little silly sometimes, but still... XDD;;

"Hana Saku Inochi Aru Kagiri" was the worst, but also the best.

I don't care, mainly because looks are a secondary aspect to me. It's never bothered me to find out that a band I like has dropped the makeup and the PVC. :p

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person that prefers Dir en grey WITHOUT makeup and the whole VK look.

If the band loses their image, I hope they just look better! Looking worse will definately
promote displeasement but the music weighed more heavily to me unless they're visual kei.

Hana Saku- and their Shyou3.XXX- PV, I thought they all looked pretty silly. Yet Shyou3.XXX was probably the silliest in my opinion. Manily because of Yuki's big spikey sun hair ;D

PVs like Yume Yori- and Akikaze they reminded me a brighter cheerful happy Malice Mizer. Yuki reminds me so much of Yu~Ki from MM in Akikaze.

I agree with Inertia- on older guys, the whole girly make-up thing just look WRONG! By the time a VK guy hits 25 he starts to lose the youthful cuteness that let him get away with the eyeliner and PVC he had before. Also, I can see how after so many years of doing make-up, guy would get tired of it. People who have only seen videos probably wouldn't notice just how much these guys sweat! The stage lighting is soooo hot, their costumes are hot and they're really nervous, so their make-up just drips offO_o;; I can see how after 5-10 years you'd get really sick of that^^;;

Younger bands can get away with just about anything in the costume department, but honestly their popularity depends not just on their costumes, but on how good their music, performance, crowd interaction, fan-handling and persona is. Also, naturally attractive guys will naturally have more fans, but they soon leave if they find out that he has a girlfriend, LOL. Japanese fans can afford to be fickle, but band-mans have to try very hard to get, keep and continue to get more fans... so of course at the start image is important, but it's still not the whole equation!

And personally I don't really care how Dir en Grey look as long as they keep making awesome original music \m/(-_-)\m/

I'm with Xelyna, and I think they have a large enough of a fan base to drop the Visual look and jut put out kick-ass albums now and play great metal, like CLEVER SLEAZOID. I just hope they'll start being accepted as a wicked metal band around the world now that the've dropped the femmie thing and have started to sing in einglish, which for some reason people up in Canada and down around the US seem to hate, I don't really get why through.

People could care less if they sing in Japanese or English. It's the fact that he's making stupid noises and screaming way to hard for it to sound like anything coherent. It really just sounds like alot of random animal noises. I really have no problem with Dir en grey now, it's just Kyo's newer screaming style that just ruins some songs for me.

A house
well

I find visuals as a plus rather than something that detracts from my musical experience. If a band sounds good, i will listen no matter what they look like.
