The funny thing about why I think Kyo is unique is that I have never heard a thing from Kuroyume/Kiyoharu or Penicillin/Hakuei, nor really all that much Luna Sea. So I'll concede and acknowledge that he certainly got more than a little influence (shady!) from them, but among what I listen to and still I think in a broader sense when compared to most others, I still stand by it.
And strangely, Daishi is the only thing I remotely LIKE in PLC O_o

I think Kyo's early style (about 1997-2000) was very Kiyoharu-influenced (or totally him, if you like), but his later singing is very much unique. I haven't heard Kiyoharu sing like he has over the past few years. Ryuichi did, but far less. I don't hear the Hakuei connection at all. ^^;

Gazette, now... I can't say Gazette is unique; their vocalist sounds like a copy of Kyo. :D

I can't think of any vocalists besides Miyavi and Sakito that I think can't sing. I definitely know that Kagerou and Nightmare's vocals really repel me, though.

Well, I said Hakuei because Hakuei has a knack for immitating Kiyoharu almost perfectly.. and since Penicillin was around before Dir en grey AND we can't really say if Kyo got his inspiration from only Kiyoharu I tossed Hakuei in there.

Gazette.. is trying to be Dir en grey so hard. XD I'll have to say though that they're ultimately going downhill as well. Ironically, Ruki's vocals when he's not screaming or making weird noises sounds worse. Although, I think Reita is a better/more fun/more appealing bassist.

I have to agree Ruki does try to be Kyo a lot x_X! However I have to applaud you because you brought up Kyo's vocal inspiration, because usually when people bitch about Ruki they do it after usually typing "ZOMG HE COPIED KYO BECAUSE HE IS SOOO ORIGINAL AND HOT!!" or something like that. So yea, I wanted to thank you for not doing that n.n;;

Daisuke of Kagerou sounds weird when he sings. I like his maniacal mumbling and shrieking better, because when he sings his volume seems to jump up and down over and over.

I thought he rocked when he was "Sanaka" o_o. Does he really suck that much now?

*still loved Sanaka x_X

Indies Kuroyume vs early Deg--yegads. Barfing noises and everything.

And I agree with others about the Ruki-Kyo/Gazette-Deg influence, but honestly I think Ruki's visuals are more Kyo than his vocals. Yeah, he makes funny noises sometimes, but so does Jui of Vidoll, and I'd never compare his style to Kyo.

And for the record, Ruki does hell of a lot better singing in a low voice than Kyo does. Reila. <3

In any case... there is definately lots of influece and some outright copying, but I still have to say I think each of them (Kiyoharu, Kyo, and Ruki) have very distinct styles of their own nonetheless. There are moments where I could confuse them, but overall? Absolutely not. :]

Kousei before the second release of Ghost's mini album. I'll listen to the first mini album and his other band Kress Devia. Every now and then I'm like....yeah gotta skip this song...but he's improved so much in their second mini album

Yu-ga (ex. DEViL KiTTY, Chateau la Tour, -Kiga-, etc) isn't that great either but I like the screaming he does and funny noises, some how he appeals but I know he's bad ;D
Also from the few videos I've seen of him live, his stage performances aren't very interesting at all. He just seems to flick off the crowd a lot and make faces at them :/ Funny(ish) but I want to hear him sing not make faces

Hiro (ex. Visage) wasn't very good but sense his voice was so weird and different I loved it.

Hibiki/Yaoyoi (ex. Angel+Dust, Vice+Risk, Garnet, etc) He's also one where it's just kind of like - uh *skip* but again like Hiro, Yu-ga and Kousei it some how appeals to me and I like him :P

Yuki (ex. Raphael) I liked him a lot and never had a problem with him, yet I noticed a lot of people hated him. So I'll toss him in xD

The singer from Dagashi Kashi is bad, I know it but I love it (laughs) Her voice hitting certain notes makes some people want to scream but....(laughs) I like it.

There's more I could list but my class has been canceled and they're kicking us out :(

.....hhhmmm.....well I guess I just have a knack for liking bad vocalist :P

There is a big similarity between Kiyoharu and Kyo, but I can tell the two apart. Kyo sounds more strong and stuff now. When I hear Kyo sing, I just know it's him. I haven't heard Gazette or Vidoll.. I may try them one day, but I think Kyo is unique. There ARE alot of moments on Kisou, Macabre, and Vulgar where he sounds very close to Kiyoharu. On Gauze he LOOKED JUST LIKE KIYOHARU. It was obvious before WtD that Kiyoharu is his 'idol'.

I personally think he's starting to sound more and more unique. Alot of songs on Gauze could've easily be sung by many other singers. I just don't think people listen anymore when he sings, and rather only listen to when he screams. So it's hard to hear how his singing actually has improved. I think his days of vomiting sounds and speedy vibratos are over.

*shares the Kanoma/Sanaka love*

Add Daisuke to my list; I don't really care for his vocals or Kagerou's music much. And I thought Kamijo's voice was rather annoying but was sort of getting used to it, then I heard some live stuff and was like, wow, he really is nasally and annoying. *hides from Lareine fans* But then, I like bis. So what do I know anyway. :P I'm still not too keen on the Phantasmagoria dude either.

I think you just have crappy quality mp3's because I can pick out Riku's vocals just fine. :lol:

It's like, in certain songs, like Material Pain, where it's hard to know what he's singing. It just sounds like noise under Kisaki. The quality's pretty good, actually. I can hear the vocals, but they're just..back there.

If you've only heard Material Pain.. it's their first single so it's really nothing to go by in terms of production. :\

Also, what do you mean "under Kisaki"? Do you mean under his bass? I dont think the bass is very loud in any of their songs. Maybe its the synth?

Hisui......Hisui just CAN NOOOOT sing sometimes.....Other times he sounds okay.

Like I said. Must be my equalizer. I can tell where the synth is. It just seems like the bass is louder than the guitars and vocals.[/quote]
