Well, I love languages, and I've loved them ever since I can remember. I learned Spanish simply so I could talk to my neighbors in their native language when I was...hmmm...7 or something, and just the many different combinations of sounds of a language different than your native one attracts me. Japanese is so foreign to me, so of course it attracted me ^_^ I'm trying to get the writing system down, first, and learn simple phrases that will keep me alive, because I love to travel, and I can't stand being in one place for a long time. I got into the music without realizing that that could actually HELP me understand the language, and now I tied them together. Just like how I'm slowly learning Latin, I had always liked the sound of classical with a singer singing in Latin, I had always liked it....but only recently realized that I like it because of the sound of the language :) My life goal is to learn to speak 35 languages fluently by the time I die X_X I'm determined.

So...what to vote for

...Because I have nothing better to do :D

I choose "Because I am interested in Japanese music in general" because I'd really like to do my own translations of music lyrics and to be finally able to read my Shoxx and Fool's Mate magazines XD

Because I have a general interest in the music. Because I have interests in many aspects of Japanese culture. Because I enjoy learning new languages. Because I'm sick of French teachers. Beacuase I already spent a course in Honors Chemistry teaching myself to read an write kana, so I may as well learn to understand it as well. Because much subtlety is lost in translation. Because I would like to be able to read what's written in all those magazines and photobooks. Because many manga translations irritate the crap out of me. Because it's a cool language. Because I wanna. Because I enjoy confusing people.

The end.

I'm in love with Japan. I just like everything -but earthquakes and lousy manga :P - I even like their protectionniste (sp?) attitude : it's like a closed world where you must fight to become integrated (or as integrated as a gaijin can be), and I find this kind of challenges very interesting.
I must be a bit masochistic.

Who's Mana, and why would I want to learn about him?

'Splain.

I mean, after I graduate from college with a Japanese Major, I'm going to go to Japan to either teach English or translate English-Japanese / Japanese-English, and after 5 years of residence there, I will apply for citizenship.

Because I don't like waiting for/don't trust the translators now< This is honestly the truth, they can truely screw up what is being said very badly...

I trust the translators for the most part, but it's still nice to observe a person's personality when the refined translations of their words don't depend on the tastes of the translator. I think I'll pick...um...the majority of the choices...^^'

To end my indecision...
Well, I plan to be a mangaka, so my job is a high priority - that's one thing I would never trust a translator with. They might incorporate "Porno Mizer" lyrics.
And I'd like to understand lots of musicians. Mana's high up there, though. Even though he sucks my money. ^_~
