Poor Mana. I hope if and when he manages to salvage his floppy disks he will finally think of a safer way to store his data. Or at least make regular backups.

I did laugh at Mana saying "OH MY GOD" ::meev::

I'm not sure what the translation of the rest is but I think he was able to get some, but not all, of the songs read from his backup disks. Or something. So this might not be quite as bad as it looks.

Honestly, it was irresponsible of him to not have a better back up ::meev::

Even if he had a bunch of floppies, it couldn't be much more than 1G of data... So why not just save it directly to his hard drive or to a USB? Or burn it onto CDs? Or all of the above? And why would he even consider this project, much less announce it all over his blog, without even checking to make sure he had his data first???

Oh well, worst case scenario: he'll actually have to work out the music by ear instead of just copy-pasting everything.

I think he should. That way it would be easier to make changes without fearing of somehow "ruining" the original and not make it sound like a carbon-copy. :|

I think because Mana used to do all his stuff on a Yamaha QY-700 (or the like) which isn't a computer at all, but saves its data on floppies. Seeing as he only got into the computer thing relatively recently, maybe he just wasn't thinking of that stuff.

Hum. Some softwares like "Disc Doctor" (Norton Utilities) from Symantec are doing real miracles in that domain. They are able to revive floppies that were dead. So, let's hope ! ^^ Anyways, the version of 2002 did it ^^ I used it so much times XD

Whatever the middle of backups, there is always a risk of losing data. Ok, floppy disks are less secure, old-fashoned (XD) but I had similar problems with CDS that I had burned and with portable hard disks.

So, what's the best way ?

And more, those floppies date from 10 years ago. We don't change of backup middle any time the technology makes progress. For the new stuffs ok. But we leave the old data on old middles of backup ^^

But if that's the case, then how can he expect to open it on a computer? I was assuming that he had the music in MIDI format or something.

If he has a computer that still accepts floppies, where is the problem ? Except the floppy destroyed.
Even if he hasn't his music in MIDI format, he can easily convert the files.

They still write a .MID file to the disk in a computer-readable format. I think he just never took advantage of that fact at the time XD
Back at the time he was doing this stuff, I had a MIDI keyboard that worked the same way ::batsu::

I don't see what lead you to write this. We don't know in what format he stored his music, after all. Just that he stored it on floppy disks ^^ I don't think Mana is so hare-brained. If he could write *.mid files or files in similar format, probably he did.
