Bumping this up. It's been weeks since the launch of TJJA's new album "Edelweiss". I'm still listening to it for the first time. And I love it so far.

I'm on the 8th track now and there has not been any single song that I feel that it is worth skipping. So far I think this album is way better than Fukaku Mogure. It passes WAY A LOT OVER IT! (caps lock power for fanboying!).
It is way better than what I expected c:! I knew Tetsu would've made it like this! :D

GO, TETSU, GO!!!

Any review from you, guys, so far? :)

Also, as a suggestion, we should do a separate thread to discuss all of Tetsu projects (nil, TJJA, Zigzo), since there's not that much information to share anyway.

I ordered my copy a bit late and haven't received it yet. I was a really big fan of the Goo Girl and fujyuu no megami and hoping there's more in that vein of that on Edelweiss! Glad to hear you're liking it. I'll post my thoughts once I get it and give it some listens.

I did hear mushokutoumei off Black Comet Club and I like what I hear. The live version of shonenhei is insanely good and is similar to the video posted on youtube sometime back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xu7rW9zrJlk
The Black Comet Club is very upbeat and catchy too.

Well...I just received my copy of Edelweiss in the mail and finally listened to it tonight.

And.
It's.
GREAT!

While undoubtedly Kazi and Sato contributed immensely to the first album for the most part the songs off fukaku mogiure were heavily Tetsu influenced compositions. Some of the songs you could imagine being nil songs except with piano instead of bass.
This new album on the other hand definitely feels like Kazi and Sato had more to contribute when it came to the song writing process. Half the tracks are attributed to the band and not just tetsu. And because of this shared responsibility, Tetsu is given ample time to focus on his vocals and delivery much in the same way he did in Zigzo, Mega8Ball and even Malice Mizer. It gives breathing room in the song structure to let the guitar stop playing and let him just focus on vocals. Overall it feels like these three guys are equal partners in the music now.

Most surprisingly is Sato's piano work which feels more integral to the songs more so this time around. Maybe it's not that surprising if I had heard his previous work which could be equally as good.

I'm intimately familiar with Kazi's work being an equally huge fan of his former band Redrum so I always enjoy his drumming style which is varied in all sorts of ways: trip-hop, down-tempo, rock, punk, jam-band and at times experimental.

Vocally speaking, Tetsu is definitely trying new stuff or doing things he hasn't done in a while. More falsetto like in the opening track 'Be Bee' has renewed my faith that he can do some amazing stuff instead of trying to blow out his vocals to bring the concert voice inside of the recording studio. The vastness sample on Amazon's page (incorrectly labeled 14461:cool: shows off some of this falsetto.

I've only heard this album once completely through so these are very initial thoughts. But overall I like every track on the album and they flow really well together. None jump out at me like certain ones on the fukaku mogure does (Roly Poly, anata no kodoma, ikiteru jikkan sa).

Listen to the samples and pick up the album folks!

Here’s an interview with Tetsu that will eventually talk about each album he released each year. He released 4 albums this year:

Zigzo, JuneJulyAugust, nil and Indies Denryoku.

Here's an interview where he talks about them:
http://likedis.jp/feature/interview/23/1

Anyway, being an indie label, they were able to post these albums on Amazon US, and probably other online marketplaces, so support these bands!

The JuneJulyAugust’s Paradise available on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NZC ... s_sp_ps_dp

nil’s Granvia also on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Granvia-Nil/dp/B0 ... il+granvia

I think JuneJulyAugust is the best of the bunch. But each album has their charm. nil is punk. Zigzo is pop rock. JJA is more artsy rock and Indies Denryoku is folky acoustic rock.

I'm not quite sure either! I guess if the title of Zigzo's Forever Young is to be taken literally, maybe he's trying to be as young and productive now as he ever was in the past?

If anything his time before Zigzo started in 1998 had him actually doing very little compared to now. Malice Mizer didn't have much output but lots of live, Mega8ball had an album and some lives, and nil had a few lives in it's first incarnation. Whereas most artists might produce more in the beginning of their career and output less later on, he seems to be the opposite.

Btw, I've been playing the JuneJulyAugust album alot lately. It's my favorite of all his recent albums. Highly recommended!

Tetsu said in an interview that he was working like mad so he could have money when he grew old. I think I read that interview on Scape, it was a joint one with (if I remember well) Közi. He mentioned he came to lend a hand when he suffered some damage to his house. Maybe this will help dig out the interview?

I'll have to add the JuneJulyAugust album to my wish list for Christmas. :P

I believe that was this interview  When a massive earthquake hit Japan, Kozi helped Tetsu out :)

Ah yes, that was a good translation and interview.

I did a quick translation, my first in a year or two, for the opening track 'Ruten' off of JJA's Paradise album

Don’t cry, she loves you

Ruten (Vicissitudes)

I can hear that siren far away from here
That siren is getting ever so close
It’s still the middle of the night
It’s still the middle of the night
I gently touch that sleeping face of yours
A gentle touch that won’t wake you up
I love you so
I love you so
I want to hold you like I’m begging for my life

I’m on the battlefield tomorrow
I’m on the battlefield tomorrow
I love you so
I love you so
I want to hold you like I’m begging for my life
Don’t cry, she loves you

Wow, this is creepy as hell!

The lyrics are only strange, but the way he sings them sure can freak you out! His voice is better than ever, and his performance amazing. Nothing to do with nil or Zigzo! He really is a multi-faceted artist!

Thanks a lot for the translation, cardy!

He loves using falsetto in JJA which is totally appropriate for these songs. That last line is such a haunting one. I can't get enough of it!

And so is the video! He looks seriously demented, and everything is building up an oppressive atmosphere. Quite disturbing, and intentionally so.

Same here! It's amazingly good. I just love TJJA's instrumentation so much. The songwriting on this album is top-notch.

I've yet to listen to nil's latest but will next.
