I went to a NYC Women Filmmakers monthly meeting because it was at NYU so I thought why not. It was really interesting @_@ I'm not a filmmaker, but I thought because I'd learn about it this summer I'd get to know people and learn what I can.
When I introduced myself they said, "Wow, you do everything!" XD I made new friends and I thought they were an admirable community. The lead woman, Cidney, gives feedback for everyone and remembers things others send her. They give each other feedback on scripts, bounce ideas off each other, and help out with advice or leads. It reminds me of those old-fashioned groups (maybe like the Bloomsbury one Virginia Woolf was a part of) where artists got together and discussed their projects. I didn't even think those existed anymore. And they were all very nice to me!
It was much more intense than I thought it would be! They went around the room discussing what their brand is and what they're currently working on, and I enjoyed listening as a noob. They've all already done films, and they're at different levels and ages. It made me actually think about what I wanted to do and what my style is, at least in my photography so far.
After we left the Tisch building one girl and I walked together a couple of blocks and she actually does more photography and acting than filmmaking so we talked about that. She was very nice and told me about where she finds her latest gigs and she said, "Keep me posted!" on whatever I do. And I felt great to be at NYU at night again and walk up those blocks to Union Square to hop on a cab.
I also saw Ting Ting and we had a great time at Riko's Peruvian Cuisine which I must say is much better than the Peruvian chain Pio Pio. MUCH more delicious and cheaper too!
I can't believe she's a law student now. SHE'S ALL GROWN UP!
She had to attend an orientation session on "how not to be biased." She asked the instructor afterwards what she can do when she feels offended at something. The instructor said she doesn't like confrontation so don't say anything because it'll make the offender feel uncomfortable. Ting Ting didn't understand what the point of the whole thing was then.
She said her classmates are very optimistic and excited to be in NYC and it was a little strange to her because she's been here a while. I said I wished more people were like that. I wished my classmates were like that, haha. I find many of my classmates, at least during class, are cynical and *I'm* the one who doesn't think something is so bad or I have hope. And I'm still excited to be here!
I gave her tips on the writing competition (which I actually have to grade now that I'm an associate editor, hooah), outlines, and to not stress herself out during her first year. MAINTAIN BALANCE! She told me how she's already worried about her summer internships, haha. What a nerd! But she has things set up for her and she's ready. I know she'll be fine!
She said so many exciting things are happening to me and I thought she was so nice. She's coming to my photography shows and she can't believe I'm going to China without her, aw. I said I'll go on the People's Park rides alone!
She hopes to bump into Richard at one of the photography shows, oh god XD I don't know which one he's coming to or if he's going to both though!
She also said whenever I talk about him my face gets cute. Oh God. I said I'll see how it goes, but he really means a lot to me and I love spending time with him, even if we're just going to the grocery store. I'm also very attracted to him! She said he also has the patience of a saint.
She said she hopes to find something that sweet. I said I can't wait to meet Timothy, her future beloved. She said she would never date a Timothy, but I said, "Timothy and Ting Ting request the honor of your presence at our wedding." XD
She did reveal someone she liked, but who isn't in the state right now but is coming back next year. Oh boy. She said she'll keep an open mind and I agreed. Who knows, maybe she'll find someone in law school! We then walked all the way to Bryant Park and I had such a good time with her! (She also lugged all the supplements I brought her! )
I also did major shopping and bought four pairs of heels/flats that are adorable and sexy. I can't wait to wear them. I start my first day at the internship in a few hours so I'll go now... I'll be in Connecticut this weekend to go to a casino and meet Al Pacino. I have VIP tickets so I'll get to meet him after his show!
