A brilliant documentary.
I acted in one of those "modern music" things once and it was pretty much that.

PS Can someone go listen to music or say something about Dada so I'm not the last one to say anything on any topic for the past week?
It's freaking me out.

I love the PBS remixes, they're really nostalgic because I remember watching those shows, even Julia Childs cooking show! They were very well done and very respectful :)

And people made fun of him because of his incredible afro (I suspect it was partly from people who were jealous) and his obsession with making everything happy; Happy clouds, happy trees, happy lakes...

Sometimes I think that modern art can best be described by this clip right here.
Yeah, I think it's the nostalgia? It's not the same as when I watch a Rugrats episode or something though. They make me sad! XD They *were* really respectful and well done, maybe that's why I miss those kinds of shows, along with the animated ones. It's like a time you'll never return to @_@ Happy clouds, aw. I didn't even know Dilbert had a show though.
I have a guy friend who has an afro like that and he's white with black hair XD It looks pretty cool, especially since he wears cool clothing from 1960s/70s and is a musician.

I saw some of the Julia Child shows too, and I remember the Julia Child and Jacques Pepin had a show though, and I saw it again recently. I felt bad still (nostalgia?), even though I was mainly interested in the cooking, but you could tell those two were such good friends. :')
Speaking of cooking, I really like it! It's weird, I've hardly ever cooked before and yet everything is coming out great XD; (I don't want to think about the implications of this along with my knitting hobby.)

I'm still a bit slow in chopping onions (and sometimes cutting meat and chicken, fish and scallops are easier for some reason), yesterday though I totally improved. They do sell chopped onions, but not as many as I'd like in a package... Anyways, I think I'll try doing chicken fried rice in a few days after the hurricane. Now that I've mastered all my favorite dishes I wanna try other nerdy stuffs and I'll definitely be checking out the cooking thread here.

This answers so many questions about spoon bands and interpretive dance O_O Truly Jem's influence on our generation will know no limits ::shifty::

I saw a mondern art interpretive video at the Seattle Art Museum where the artist placed a camera on a train and just filmed passing rice paddies for half an hour. It was an interesting video, though I'm not sure I'd call it art. It reminded my of early cinema from over a century ago. The next time I was there they had a video with a bunch of naked people in a circle throwing fruit at a naked man in the middle. I'm not sure what the message behind that video was but I assumed it was just levels beyond my comprehension. ::meev:: (Did you know that when Thomas Edison invented cinema, it was originially intended to be pictures to accompany music from his phonograph and not the other way around? )

Geez, you sound so... I don't know, as if you're a 50 year old banker in a dark suit, paisley tie, wearing his wedding ring, riding the subway every day to work. I see those types all the time along with all sorts of other people, and it's really interesting.
Oh, didn't you know? That's exactly what I am now ::cred::

Except instead of the subway I ride The People Mover in an endless loop, since that's about all we have for mass transit in Michigan.

Especially after all his "Count" and "Earl" roles in Malice Mizer, this is a bit of a surprise! Then again, they did do that random photoshoot where they were all a family in a trailer or something... Now I bet it was Yu~ki who suggested that and gave Mana some spiked Nachan or something... ::shifty::

[EDIT] Top of the page... Holla! ::batsu::
Continuing the discussion of Yu~ki's minzoku-kei fashion

It does make sense if you've seen a Madousho pic of him backstage at DS1... And I'm assuming it's Madousho because mine are tucked away and I'm too lazy to go and get them and I couldn't find it on my pc files...

I STILL got no power... still sitting in the dark, unwashed, playing DS and eating chips out of the bag. Hurricanes are bad news, they turn you into neeerrrdddds ::meev::
But I went out today and civilization hasn't collapsed, you can get food, water, and petrol without fighting for it. And I can keep my main electronics charged up with my car charger so I've got the essentials. I won't snap and become a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic warlord as long as I've got some games ::meev::

Ok, turns out it's ok to translate the DS II pamphlet.
Here's the part of minzoku-kei

And Yuki, it’s really been a long time since you played bass on stage if I’m correct…

Y: It has been long. I’m practicing standing up while playing (lol)
K: Ah, cause you’ve gotta stand while you’re playing at performances.
Y: I wobble around like a newborn lamb while I’m playing!
K: You’re always wobbly, but suddenly it’s doubled!
Y: I keep thinking, “Since when was the bass so heavy?” and stuff like that.
M: You don’t normally play it?
Y: I do. Well, here and there.
K: Yuki-chan, you play that thing at home, don’t you? What was it again. That thing you bought when we went out shopping before.
Y: Ah, the didgeridoo.
M: Didgeridoo?
Y: Apparently it’s originally a traditional woodwind instrument the Australian aborigines play.
M: What got you interested in that?
Y: These past few years I’ve been wearing minzoku-kei as my normal clothing style, and since I’ve been doing that it’s natural that I’d be interested in minzoku-kei instruments as well. For percussion I’m interested in minzoku-kei too.
M: Ah, I see. Your fashion was minzoku-kei when you came to see [Deep Sanctuary I], so I thought to myself that you had a lot of different drawers. So it’s not just the fashion, but your lifestyle itself had become minzoku-kei.
Y: Ever since I started dressing like this I’ve had all these ladies suddenly calling out to me on the streets. Even yesterday in town a made-up, trendy lady came up to me and asked, “Which country is that fashion from?”
K: Eeeeh…
Y: At first I thought it might be some sort of solicitation, like “Join us and find the road to happiness!”, but then she was old.
K: laughs
M: Is your house minzoku-kei too?
K: Before I went to Yuki-chan’s place – he has really good taste! It’s completely minzoku-kei, but the way he uses accessories, cloth, lighting, etc is super cool.
M: Hoh…
K: Yuki-chan has exceedingly good artistic taste after all. I wanted to imitate the way he used draping so when he was off getting beer I went around taking photos of everything (lol)
M: Do you still write songs?
Y: Yup, I keep getting off track but…bit by bit.
M: Like trying to incorporate in minzoku-kei?
Y: Yes, there is that.

So is Yu~ki wearing like, serapes now? XD

I'm back in New York for the first time after the hurricane. "Law and order" is a fiction mainly honored in the breach, and people are crowded into the few buildings fit for human habitation, living in their own filth in unspeakable conditions.
... so, everything's pretty much back to normal here ::meev::

Yu~ki plays a didgeridoo? I didn't know that o_O It would be interesting if he released a minzoku-kei CD with his new music, though I wonder how popular it would be... (Other than the "OMG YU~KI!!11!!!11!!1111!!!!" fans who would buy the CD because it was Yu~ki... me included... )

@Flowers: Uh, right, considering all our subway systems (especially the yellow line I always took) and tunnels and trains are flooded and downtown and other boroughs still has no power or water? And people have died, areas are still flooded and destroyed, and a tons of stores are being looted in Brooklyn and other places? Just because the Times Square area is OK doesn't mean everything is back to normal o_O I don't know how you can talk like that about NY when people are still suffering, not to mention those who've lost loved ones and everything they had. Maybe people are living in filth both here and in NJ because that's all they have left. I was so worried about you too.

Anyways, keep us in your thoughts guys! Most of my friends are stranded and my university has been shut down and evacuated (most of our buildings are flooded and broken), everyone is mostly in like two buildings that managed to have power and haven't been flooded now and have been trying to relocate. Our hospitals are down too and had to be evacuated and a lot of homes burnt down in Queens and I don't know how my friends are doing there still. I feel really bad for those who've lost their homes and businesses here in NY and in NJ and just seeing what I can on TV is awful and heartbreaking. One of my friends had her house entirely flooded so she's kind of homeless now until things get better. I donno, our supermarkets have nothing right now and ugh.

I think there are really good pictures here.

I know I'm from a place that gets hit by hurricanes hard every year (we had gone through Hurricane Andrew, Katrina, Wilma, Ike, etc), and I lived on the ocean, so hurricanes have never been a big deal for me, but it's really different for a city that hardly gets hurricanes and isn't as prepared for them. Everything just goes downhill.

Ok I should get off now.

Yeah, this is the first time I was able to check any news in a couple days, looks like I seem to be in the one pocket of the city that didn't get trashed beyond recognition o_O I heard about the subway but not anything else.

Now I'm wondering if it was foolhardy to come here at all - guess we'll see.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!! To keep to newfound Yuki momentum going, here's the next page.

Using email you 3 connected with each other again for the first time in a while, so is there anything that you think, “This person sure has changed”?

K: When it comes down to it, the analogue type Mana had become a super digital being (lol)
M: I know it pretty thoroughly! Cause I’ve studied the Mac. I’ve really become a Digipafo (Digital Performer) and Mac artisan.
Y: I bought Digipafo too you know. But it failed at installation 3 times and I couldn’t use it then.
All: burst out laughing
Y: And, I researched it, and heard tons about it, and had people teach me how to use it, and tried it out, but in the end I didn’t understand, and that’s how it’s remained.
M: Ah…
Y: When it comes to music, there are plenty of people making good sounds with analogue.
K: Defiance!
Y: It’s best to capitalize on something the most possible and use that!
K: Yeah but there’s still that Digipafo you couldn’t capitalize!
All: laugh
M: It’s been about 10 years I think. Back in Malice times I saw Kozi using Digipafo and I thought it was a super difficult thing you were doing! At that time I didn’t even have a PC.
Kozi said a lot of really difficult sounding vocabulary like the interface this and that, and I heard that it even freezes, so I thought it was definitely impossible. QY doesn’t freeze.

Y: It does freeze, QY.
M: What???? Really?!?!?
K: Isn’t it because Yuki-chan’s using his QY to the last inch of its life?
M: Ah, yes, he appropriated it to the point that the characters disappeared.
Y: It was pretty worn down. But the one I have now is my second.
K: He’s a man assembling hard sounds.
M: Now I’m using a Mac to make songs, but I wish I had gotten into PC’s earlier.
K: I can’t believe it. That Super Uber Mega analogue Mana is now digital.
Y: But he’s always been the kind of person who really gets into whatever he gets into.
K: Good point. It takes a lot for him to get into something, but once he does he goes really deep.
M: Once I get into it, I want to find out everything there is to know.
K: I’m the opposite. I get into stuff easily, but always on the shallow side.
Y: Ah, that’s right. Kozi’s wide and shallow. Mana’s narrowed down and deep.
