Yeah, Dix Infernal sounds more like Nightwish than Malice Mizer. I guess if the rock element of malice mizer was stronger/harder they could have sounded more like Nightwish. Both the bands' musical style is based around the same concept though, rock + classical :).

And Nightwish's male vocalist is horrible (even though you get used to him after a while). Planet Hell would be such a wonderful song if he never sang on it.

My favorite bands (in no particular order):

Lacuna Coil
Evanescence
Nightwish
Linkin Park
Pink
Sarah McLachlan
Sting
Enya
Secret Garden
Santana

Other people I find interesting but haven't checked out:
Lola Ray
The Sins of Thy Beloved

Greatest band on Earth (IMO so don't send the torch/pitchfork wielding villagers after me):

SCHWARZ STEIN!!!! (They have a german name :D )

That's awesome! Cinema Strange doesn't play in Los Angeles as much anymore, but when they did, i tried to go to all of them! They put on a good show. The last time i seen them, Lucas, the singer, was wearing a safari outfit!

I need more music exposure =p

Wow, someone else actually knows about Secret Garden, I'm surprised. They play some good stuff, it's a shame they're so elusive and unknown to most. But it's the good bands out there that are usually that way. Back on topic, among my favorite non J-rock bands at the moment (this is always subject to change), the list lies below:

1) Dreams of Sanity
2) Depeche Mode
3) Fantomas
4) Rush
5) System of a Down

I've only heard a few songs by Cinema Strange, but from what I hear I like! :D And to add to your "Holy Grail" list of classics, -priss-, you've gotta include Chopin! He's my very favorite classical composer.

Nightwish doesn't sound like Malice Mizer or Moi dix mois. They sound like a Finnish version of Onmyouza. The bands are almost alike:
5 members
2 singers: 1 guy/1 girl
Both male singers are the bass players.
Both bands have an "80's" feel, but Onmyouza is more...mystical.
Just listen to Wish I Had an Angel, by Nightwish and Kirin, by Onmyouza.

Anyhoo,

1. collide
2. Outkast
3. No Doubt
4. Aaliyah
5. Tenacious D :D

well, all this talk of Nightwish led me to go and download some of their music... omfg I'm in love o.O

but if I were to compare them to any aforementioned bands on this thread, it would be Evanesence rather than any said j-rock bands (never heard Onmyouza, though). Actually, the best comparison i've struck up is Loreena McKennit gone goth rock (which has rekindled my love for Loreena McKennit and caused me to raid my dad's office for music... a strange thing). Really I guess, we just all have different ways of viewing things and music strikes us all in different ways.

I don't see how you people can listen to things like Outkast and No Doubt along with Malice Mizer and Moi Dix Mois... Its extremely and radically different, not that its a bad thing, but I personally don't like them. Its just that people who usually like those two different genres dont like the other. I seriously can't stand Outkast though, especially that "Hey ya" song.... Oh well, enough ranting for now. ^^

Yeah, well, I'm just diverse like that. I don't like to be "pigeonholed" and stereotyped by my musical choices, or anything else. And I believe enjoying different genres of music attests to one's acceptance of others.

People don't tend to conform to cut made standards in real life. So yes, it is possible to like Malize Mizer and just about anything else. It's very limiting to only listen to one genre of music or like only one kind of anything (whether that is one kind of literature or one kind of food).

I know that that's not what you were getting at though. You mean 'how can people who listen to something so good listen to so much crap at the same time'. And I think you'll find that the definition of 'crap' there is your own so don't wonder too much about it. It's just that people don't agree with you there.

I do see what you mean, but I'm just wondering because the styles are radically different, and I usually do not see people listening to those two different styles. Yes, it is true that I believe it is 'crap', but that's not what I was talking about. I don't like it, thus I don't know why others do. That's what I was getting at.

Do you even know why you don't like it?? Can you explain why you think this other music is "crap"? And do you really think that people shouldn't like it because you don't? Wow.

6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs
7. Erykah Badu
8. Hendrix
9. Missy Elliott
10. Destiny's Child

...

Yes, I know why I don't like it. I think it sounds horrible, takes absolutely no talent, and has no other purpose than to give people a pathetic excuse to bring up things such as drugs, sex, money, and most of all their egos. And no, I do not really think that people should not like a certain style of music because I don't. I was merely curious as to why they liked it. Isn't it wonderful when people blow things out of proportion? Wow.

Don't like it? You asked for it.
