I guess I should've posted in here looong time ago o.o Well, here goes....

Firstly...SORRY FOR LONG POST, I couldn't help it!!! >.<

The whole story of my Malice Mizer obsession started around Xmas three years ago, where my friend for the very first time showed me Jrock. It started with her having a picture of Gackt on her MSN avatar, and she asked me if I thought he looked cool. o.o I told her he looked really handsome, but I didn't really care so much ^^; Some days later she came over to my house and showed me Malice Mizer. I saw a short Illuminati-concert, and I thought the melody was really catching. But to be honest I wasn't used to Visual Kei, so I didn't like them ; ;
She also showed me some pictures too, but I was all like "They all look like girls!" >.< I was soo stupid there!!! *Slaps herself*

Anyways, after showing me some other concerts and PVs like Gekka no Yasoukyoku, she gave up. When she left, she accidentally forgot to delete the Illuminati song she had saved onto my pc. o.o And thank god for that! Some weeks later, somewhere in late February I was cleaning up on my pc, and I randomly found the old, dusty song in a tiny little map. I had forgotten all about Malice Mizer until i saw that song, and I thought with myself "Oh, it was those guys.."
I right-clicked on the song and was THAT close to deleting it, before I faintly remembered the catchy melody and decided to give them a chance. I listened to the song, and eventually I began to like it. After a few times of listening to it, I decided not to delete it! ^^

I listened to it lots of times every day, and really started to like Illuminati. For some reason I had started talking about Malice Mizer's Illuminati to a friend of me, and he said "Yeah, it's a cool song. But why don't you listen to some more songs of Malice Mizer?" I hadn't even thought about that until then ^^; So on, he showed me Brise performed in the Merveilles concert, and from that second there was no way back. I all of sudden found myself downloading all the Malice Mizer-songs, clips and videos I could find!

After a while listening to their music and watching their concerts and interviews, it wasn't only the music that drawed me towards them. I was really touched by each member's appearance and personality. I started reading and learning more about all of them, learned the difference between Közy and Yu~ki (Yes, I didn't recognize their faces and expressions at first ^^; ) and I began to understand the true meaning of music and Visual Kei. Some weeks later, I was actually obsessed with them. I wasn't any expert or anything, but at least I could call myself a true fan of Malice Mizer! *Nods*

I was dragged towards Kami the moment I learned more about him v.v His personality, his awesome drumming talent and of course his beautiful look. I remember I was watching the "Fishing Lessons" interview when I kind of switched from liking Gackt the most to Kami x_X Sounds weird, yes >.< But it was really something special with everyone. All the members of Malice Mizer became really important to me, and I kept searching for songs and videos, hoping to get to know more about them.

But, one time when I was watching a interview, I all of sudden vaguely remembered that my friend had told me about one of the members that had died. My heart almost stopped when I remembered that. I stopped the interview and flew over to the internet to find out which of them that was dead. >.<
And there it was. Kami's death announcement. I remember I kind of died a little inside >.< I cried for almost three days.

And now, I know most that is to know about them, and I've even gotten to the point where I've seen Mana-sama for real!!! It's unbelievable that if I hadn't stopped for those tiny milliseconds, giving Illuminati this one last chance, nothing of this would've happened. ^^;; By clicking on the play-button on Illuminati that one time, I decided the direction of my life without knowing it.
They have really changed how I am, I can never go back to what or who I was before I got to know Malice Mizer. And...I'm happy for that ^^

Hmm...
It must be 2000 or 2001 when I first came in touch with MM...
The first vid I saw was Illuminati live (at Nikkan TV)... Not the best intro though, but I likes it in a way... even I was SO amused about Mana and Kozi dancing XDDDD

When I think about it, it has to be 2001... I just learn about bands, when they seperate XDDD (I first heard of MdM in April 2005, just after the last live with Juka XDDDDD )

I'd been listening to Boris for awhile. I was on Wikipedia, reading their article. I saw that they'd collaborated with someone called Michio Kurihara, who was in a band called Ghost. I looked at Ghost's article, and found out that there's two Japanese bands called Ghost (the good one being the psychedelic one, the not so good one the visual kei one). I looked at the articles for both Ghosts, and eventually ended up on the Visual Kei article, with a big picture of Malice Mizer on there. I went onto Youtube, watched Au Revoir, liked it and watched Illuminati. I hated the latter so much I was almost turned off MM forever. Luckily, I watched another video, either Baroque or Gardenia. This was about one month ago.

"how old were you when you started listening to malice mizer? what era was it? was it after they disbanded? [er... when on indefinate hiatus =P] What did you think at first? What was the first song you listened to? How did you find malice mizer? "

i was 26 (last year), so yeah, way long time after they disbanded/hiatus started
i heard about them because of Gackt, i've listened to one of his songs and liked it, became curious about what the guy did before being solo... i've also read a lot of stuff about him in Malice Mizer... made me even more curious... but in the beginning i totally refused to listen to Malice Mizer, i hated VK... i don't know, but i did
it irked me only seeing on YT the icons of MM videos
i didn't liked the way he looked either, i disliked it a lot actually, but i tried to ignore it because i loved his voice
then continuing to hear more and more stuff about MM in his era i became more interested and in the end i forced myself to watch that little movie they did : Bel Air ~Kuuhaku no Shunkan no Naka De~ de L'image - yes i had to google that, i suck at japanese titles
so there you have it - Bel air first song
i hated the movie at first too... weird
and they were too thin, too weird, too... but in time i got used to it... now i love their music
just ordered the first CD of Gackt era Voyage and Sans Retour bla bla bla (too long name) DVD

I totally made this thread, but I decided to edit my original post since it was written retardedly. Then I figured I could just delete most of it and re-post my experience. xD

I was 12 years old. My first song was 'Beast of Blood', which I loved because I was all gothy and whatnot. Then I heard baroque, and though I liked it, I was super confused as the vocals didn't sound at all like beast of blood.

Then I started to like Bel Air, Uruwashiki Kamen no shotaijou, au revoir, etc. It wasn't until the end of that year that I found out that they've had multiple vocalists, That Kami is tragically passed in 1999, and that Mana is a man, not a woman. It was all a shock at the time. xD I was used to mainstream american bands, which almost never change members and NEVER change vocalists. The idea of the vocalist not being the leader of the band was new to me.

I was introduced originally by my close friend, who's brother was into The Pillows and Malice Mizer and random other japanese acts. I think this was like 2003? 2004?

I was watching a Dir en Grey vid on YouTube, and in the related videos section, there was, for some weird reason, a link to a short clip from a Malice Mizer interview, entitled 'Mana wanting to laugh.' Curious to know what was so newsworthy about someone wanting to laugh, I clicked on it and watched it. Then I thought "Why not give that band a listen?". So I did, but I didn't really get into them for a while. Beast of Blood was the only song I liked from that start- most of the other stuff had to grow on me, but grow on me it did, and here I am.

I did run into a bit of confusion over the band at first. Not only did I believe Mana to be a woman at first glance (although thankfully I was set straight almost immediately, when I read the comments under that first interview clip), but I also thought Kami was Kozi for weeks, which meant that I thought one of the people in the Beast of Blood PV was now dead.

Oh, the memories...

I started listening to them 6 years ago. I was 13-14, can't recall correctly. My best friend intruduced me to them by a picture.
We were very curious about crossdressing and Mana kinda came out out of the blue... But I clearly remember how Közi stole my breath away the first time I saw him (Beast of blood). He made me forget all about Mana and made me took more seriously the music.

(Excuse the horrible english.)

I thought I had posted here, but apparently not. Must have been some other thread. ::meev::

Anyway, I first came across them in 2000 or 2001. I was in a goth fashion ML and someone posted a link to Moi-meme-Moitie's online shop. I don't feel comfortable in typical western goth clothes, i.e. medieval dresses, fetish, cybergoth (looks like sportswear on me) etc, so I had been experimenting with a tailored, dandy type look and MmM's mix of dark, elegant and cute was exactly what I had been looking for. Then I heard that people who wear MmM aren't goths, but gothic lolitas and listen to something called visual kei. I did some research and found some websites with band pics and mp3 downloads. A couple of bands looked really interesting, especially one called Malice Mizer, whose weirdness seemed unlike anyone else's. But my PC was too old and slow to download music and I didn't know anyone who was into Japanese pop culture, so apart from downloading some pics I didn't do anything for a year or two.

But I just kept bumping into MM. I remember thinking "here they are AGAIN" when they popped up in a poll called "which five CDs would you take to a desert island with you?" One poster named four of my favourite goth albums, plus Bara no Seidou. So I finally caved in and ordered two CDs, one by Dir en grey (because I liked the way they looked and all the Jrock fans seemed to love them) and Bara by MM. I put Deg on first, hated it and started to curse myself for wasting money on expensive import CDs of bands I didn't even know, but then I put on Bara and was totally blown away. So I researched more about MM and M10M, which had started by then, and found out that Mana was also the guy behind MmM. Funny coincidence, I found him twice...

I'm gonna do the same as you, Amatsu, and re-write my really bad original. ::meev::

Of course, we start off when I was around my junior year in high school, and I was getting into the anime craze and all of that other stuff relating to Japan, so naturally I became curious in Japanese music. I think I was probably in some forum, which had some jrock recommendations, and two of those included Dir en Grey and Malice Mizer. After having heard of these bands, I began to download some of the songs on a torrent and remember my first Malice Mizer songs being from the Tetsu era.. strangely enough, I wasn't put off by the infamous 'maddened cow' vocals, so I continued to listen.

After a while, I wanted to find out more about the band, and I stumbled upon their main website. I got freaked out by that BoB picture that's there, so I kind of stopped for a while! Then I eventually came upon a website that recommended the album Merveilles, so I finally ended up ordering the cd. I put in the cd when I was driving to the skate park one night and initially thought that syunikiss was two separate songs! ::meev::
I liked syunikiss, bel air, and illuminati, and then I got to the park and put on the cd player my friends and I had out there. I was like, "hey guys.. listen to this awesome cd!" but the rest of the album was super poppy and lame sounding, so someone else put a German techno cd in instead. I didn't listen to Merveilles again for a few years after that.

In the mean time, I discovered Moi dix Mois and began listening to that, but I decided to check out some of Malice Mizer's other songs, because I had seen that there was another album, Bara no Seidou, when I bought Merveilles way back then. So I looked into the Klaha era and loved it! It was in a similar field with Moi dix Mois, which I already liked, so I started listening to them again. It wasn't until recently when I started to like Merveilles after giving it more chances, so I pretty much like 98% of the music that Malice Mizer made now, and that's why they're my favorite band!

Second Year college, first semester. The first song I heard was Baroque.

At some point I got confused about the vocalists and questioned if I downloaded the correct band. Then I did my research and stopped being confused. LOL

Saw a picture of Mana thought it was a she, thought she was a hottie. Was informed of my mistake, curiosity piqued, listenend to Syunikiss, fell in love.

This would have been 2002 or 2003. I miss those days. :(

It was in late 2007. I was 15.

I had got to know Mana-Sama's work in MdM fairly recently, which had been introduced to me by my cousins at that time.

At the same time, I was becoming more and more interested in Final Fantasy games, so one day I decided to search final fantasy characters look-a-likes, and there was this site that compared Gackt to nearly every male FF character. At the time I was thinking "Who the hell is Gackt?" So I googled his name. During the search I remember reading the name Malice Mizer and remembering it from somewhere else, later I came to the conclusion that I had seen it in a random Mana-Sama article I had read. But for some reason I didn't pay much attention to that, so from that moment on I continued to listen MdM's songs and since I couldn't have access to the FFVII: Crisis Core game, I was having fun watching cutscenes on YouTube. By that time, Malice Mizer remained a mystery for me.

Some months later, my cousins and I met at out grandma's and meanwhile they told me that they had found a really weird song and they also told me that it was by Malice Mizer. I immediately related that band name with the Mana and Gackt articles, so I wanted to give it a try. So I did, my first song ever was Gekka No Yasoukyoku, I tought it was the weirdest thing ever, didn't stop me from loving it though :P
I didn't know any of Gackt's solo works at the time, so I could only imagine Genesis singing it ::gaku::.

The first picture I saw of them... They were in their ILLUMINATI leather outfits, I couldn't take my eyes off their platforms.

Anyway... Like my friend once said about Gekka: "This ain't J-music! This is GOTH PIMBA!"
