I'm that way as well. Besides Mylene Farmer (thanks Mana!) and older music genres (20's 30's), I really don't have a big liking for music other than MM and M+M.

sorry to break up the discussion... but i have to agree with this as well. I've tried alot to find some sort of OTHER music to like, (because saying basically only MM and all it's spin offs makes me feel like i sound close minded or something... i dunno) basically other than MM i listen to... no "real" other bands? i like movie and video game soundtracks.... ::kisaki::

I love music and videogame soundtracks as well, but I can't seem to listen to them when they're alone. I enjoy them most when I'm watching movies or playing games.

Mana is repetitive the same way Deathgaze is. The same way the key party bands are. The same way UnsraW is after so long. Ect, ect. I still love their music, heck, I listen to UnsraW all the time. But, they still don't leave their comfort zone. Like I said, you KNOW what to expect from them. I can sometimes even guess the next note.
I think most musicians are repetitive in some way or another, in all honesty. I don't expect musicians to jump from one huge change to the next, because you have other musicians to listen if you want something different.
Why does it always have to be one extreme or the other?

I don't think anybody should really expect Moi dix Mois to have a vastly different sound each album/song. They shouldn't even really expect semi-diverse track list each album. Mana is the only one in the band writing the music. You can't expect him to try and put so many different things into one album working alone. It'd take a really long time and the result wouldn't be that great. Mana does what he's good at. To expect him to pull out something, say Köziesque (I'm not limiting it to Közi's style, though), would end up a disaster.

But that's making excuses for someone to only have one mind for music. :-*
Sure, but you still can't expect him Moi dix Mois to play a wide array of styles with only one Mana writing everything. If the other members would write music as well, I'm sure it'd be thousands of times more diverse. So, I guess I'm pointing the finger as much as making an excuse for them. :/

I already said, I don't mean one extreme or the other, but it'd be nice if he tossed in something different here and there. I dont mean like super original every song is different kind of stuff, I just mean, when artists only know how to do one thing, it gets kinda boring, no matter who's writing, or how many people.

Well, I was adding onto yours, that people can't expect him to turn out so-and-so when so-and-so isn't what he does. I see what you mean, though.

But, also, that's what people got with Beyond the Gate and not everybody was thrilled about him abandoning his harpsichord.

Mmhm, I agree with holylampposts. Since Mana is the only one writing the music, they're all going to sound quite a bit alike, as obviously everyone has their own style.

But, I also agree with Miz, in saying that artists get boring if they do the same stuff...

However, I don't think that Mana is doing the same thing. I see how some of his songs can sound similar, and that's to be expected, but I honestly am happy with what I think is a rather diverse selection of songs.

Hmm... well for the first time, I feel a bit disappointed by Moi dix Mois. That sample didn't really impress me at all. Not to say that I won't buy DIXANUADU, or that the album itself will disappoint me, but after hearing the sample I don't have a burning urge to get the album right this second. Then again, when comparing the sample of Eternally Beyond (from before Beyond the Gate was released) to the song itself, the song was much more impressive. I agree that Seth sounds much better so far, I just am not blown away excited by the sample is all...

After listening to this sample I was just like "Woah!? ::shifty:: "

It's really great to hear that Mana can still write songs like this etc.. For me it sounds like he found back to his alter ego. Lamentfull Miss was okay, an okay heavy-metal opera, but not that impressive. But this sample is just great...in my opinion!

And another thing I really like about this thing is this blue-style. In my opinion it makes it a lot of easier to listen to his songs without this red-hell-image in my head. <3

The thing is, Mana can do more than one thing, its just he isnt. He could honestly make the songs more Mizer-ish, but I think he doesnt want to for a reason.

I agree, I mean, when I listened to the clip, I think its awesome, but I know its Moi Dix Mois. And I think thats how Mana wants it. They have a certain sound and are sticking to it more than diverting from it. Id like it if they did so as well, but at the same time, I love that type of music.

I mean a tone switch, a mood switch, or a tempo switch.
So like the difference between Vizard and Mephisto Waltz? Or Deflower and Vain? Or Eternally Beyond and La Dix Croix? Or, save a few tracks on the Dix Infernal album, pretty much their entire repertoire?

They're not ditching the metallic sound. They aren't ditching the dark tone (except, if you recall, they did with Pageant!). If you want something outside of that, you're looking in the wrong place. This isn't Malice Mizer where they undulate from jazzy bossa schlock to rockin' guitars to industrial techno stuff to dramatic symphonic sounds to everything else on the face of the Earth.

I should start quoting myself.

I don't mean a HUGE drastic change. I mean something like, instead of "Black metal! Ballad! Black metal! Ballad!" Why not a solid rockin' song once in a while for crowd pumping purposes? Why not soem song where mana can show his skills? Why not a song with start/stop action and a breakdown?

Instead, it's two tones. Over and over. Just like with the band I mentioned. Deathgaze. "Nu metal! Slow type! Nu metal! Slow type!" Doesn't mean they're bad, but change would be nice.
