Somehow I knew that half a dozen people here would jump down my throat if I mention this observation. ::meev::

That has nothing to do with Kozi's voice being "strong enough" and everything to do with whoever set up the sound at the venue.
It was in 2 different venues, one small and the other several times larger, and once I was standing in front and the other time towards the middle of the pit. Both times he performed together with other bands and I could hear their vocalists just fine. So I don't think you can blame it all on the venue sound, although it obviously plays a part.

yes, o think it all depends on the place, the sound quality, etc... and if we're talking about loki'n roll. These songs are quite noisie-like and even in the album version the vocals seems to be a little backgrounds of the other sounds and sorta distorted
It was a mixture of Loki and other stuff.

That's interesting, but when it comes to mic singing it's not really the singer's responsibility to cut across the band's sound as much as it's the mic's. I'm sure the other bands that played had different equipment and a different sound setup from Kozi, and that's why there was a difference.

So what are you suggesting, that he didn't have his own equipment and sound setup?

No, I actually said the opposite. That he had different equipment from the other band resulting in a different sound.

But the most important thing that I've been trying to get across is that this isn't Theater or Opera, where a singer has to train to attain a certain volume, formant, and diction to be audible over the orchestra. When singers use a mic, they can be as mumbly, sloppy, and weak as they want and you should be able to hear them because the sound is mixed and set up specifically to achieve that.

If you couldn't hear Kozi, it wasn't because "he has a weak voice", it was because of something to do with the sound setup.

I know that there's a difference between singing with and without a mic and I already agreed that the venue sound plays a part. But if someone is singing right in front of you, mic or not, you can make an educated guess as to whether their voice is suited to belting out the type of vocals you'd associate with metal (which is what my original comment was about). I mean, those venues weren't stadiums and I was never more than 3 meters away from the stage.

BTW, I'm not trying to give the impression that Kozi is a terrible singer. I would certainly recommend to go and see him because he has incredible charisma and is great fun to watch. I'm just saying that I can't imagine him singing hard rock or metal. My God.
