Because of his own insecurity... It's a homosexuality thing. You assume a lot for not having lived with him since birth. ;)

You leave very little for others to assume anything due to your lack of given info and obnoxious thoughts about someone in your household. ;)

Btw, try being nice when people are simply giving alternative reasons for things. Maybe something along the lines of "No, see, he's like that for so-and-so reason". Kindness gets you further than arrogance.

Whoa, let's keep the arguments over personal life out of this o_o

You got it boss.. but.. wouldn't this thread kind of invite that in considering it has to do with the personal feelings of a parent on Mana? Sort of invites the whole personal life into it. :\

How old are you? (Sorry if this was already mentioned.) No matter how old you are, though, they can't decide what you like.

I'm 15 now.
And you're right! They can't decide what I like....
I'll just tell that to them and put all my Mana-sama
pictures back on my walls... :o

Heh, just do it...tactfully, guys. Presentation is the difference between convincing them to respect your tastes and getting grounded. XD

I once got grounded for spitting, and also for chewing with my mouth open. That was last night. :| Actually, that never happened! :D

As for parents not having the right to tell their kids not to listen or watching something. They do, they're their kids for crying out loud. Sure, they can't stop them, but they sure as hell tell them. :D

Good 'ol fashion whippin' is what this society needs!

I've never been grounded either. But I more or less behaved, and also happen to have the Coolest Parents Ever™.

I don't think age has much to do with it. My folks are old, much older than any of my friend's parents growing up... and damn if mine were'nt the most lenient and understanding. In fact it's the young parents I find to be the most hypercontrolling.

hmm...

you DO have a point...

i think my parents are trying to act young and they just don't understand that if your parents brought you up all wrong to try and change what they did and bring your kid up the opposite....

Yeah, really. I don't believe my parents even knew what grounding was until I was much older. (There really isn't an equivalent to "grounding" in Chinese, I guess.) Not that I cause much trouble either - I kept low key, and always stay low key even nowadays.

And while I think it's fine for parents to put a foot down on what their kids read/hear/etc., I think keeping the kids too sheltered isn't any benefit to the child, either. Like recently, such stuff has gotten so bad in my school's media and whatnot about how parents are censoring what their kids read, etc. that it's gotten to national news. Gehh.

Well, the problem with that is human nature: we always want what we can't have, so the more parents try to censor their kids from things the more out of control the kids are likely to get, because they will go to further means to get what they are being denied. Taboo things draw attention, especially from kids and teens. Being a rebel is cool; it's all about the extremes that go against the grain of society during those years, because that is when kids are desperately trying to define themselves. They think that doing things that are "wrong" and liking things that go against their parent's wishes will somehow individuate them. Which is retarded, of course. Having individuality has nothing to do with definace of social norms or pop culture. I see such behavoir as an insecurity reflex. People who act like that have no sense of self of have to define themselves by being rebellious. It's kind of sad.

I don't know if there is some formula for good parenting, but I do think it is all about moderation and is very subjective from family to family. Just, unfortunately lots of people don't understand themsleves well enough to properly bear the responsibility of raising children.
