Because of his own insecurity... It's a homosexuality thing. You assume a lot for not having lived with him since birth.

Unlucky youths grounded for 25 years for "sassing back"
Yeah, really. I don't believe my parents even knew what grounding was until I was much older. (There really isn't an equivalent to "grounding" in Chinese, I guess.) Not that I cause much trouble either - I kept low key, and always stay low key even nowadays.navate wrote:I've never been grounded either.

And while I think it's fine for parents to put a foot down on what their kids read/hear/etc., I think keeping the kids too sheltered isn't any benefit to the child, either. Like recently, such stuff has gotten so bad in my school's media and whatnot about how parents are censoring what their kids read, etc. that it's gotten to national news. Gehh.
Well, the problem with that is human nature: we always want what we can't have, so the more parents try to censor their kids from things the more out of control the kids are likely to get, because they will go to further means to get what they are being denied. Taboo things draw attention, especially from kids and teens. Being a rebel is cool; it's all about the extremes that go against the grain of society during those years, because that is when kids are desperately trying to define themselves. They think that doing things that are "wrong" and liking things that go against their parent's wishes will somehow individuate them. Which is retarded, of course. Having individuality has nothing to do with definace of social norms or pop culture. I see such behavoir as an insecurity reflex. People who act like that have no sense of self of have to define themselves by being rebellious. It's kind of sad.Akurei wrote:And while I think it's fine for parents to put a foot down on what their kids read/hear/etc., I think keeping the kids too sheltered isn't any benefit to the child, either.
