Thanks snailfreak, for the lyrics and the photos. I love them all :)

Is it just me or is Gackt getting more press than usual here on scape? ::gaku::

No problem :)

And no, it's not just you. I've been getting that feeling lately too, haha ^^ But maybe it's just because Gackt has been pretty active lately with all these new singles and whatnot?

Before I didn't like the curly-hair look, but seeing these I definitely do! :D

don't flame me, but this curly Gackt reminds me to... Mana's ega look

Yeah, unlike certain other people. ::mana::
In general he releases way more than them though, so it can't be just that.

As long as no blue lipstick is going to follow, I won't complain. (Nothing against Mana and his blue lipstick, but I don't exactly want to see it on recent Gackt)

Hmm. I think it's more that Gackt is doing something right now so our eyes are on him. It seems like this every time Gackt releases something and nothing else is really going on with other -scape- artists. Because whenever we talk about gackt people get super sensitive about people not liking gackt and go on crusades to try and get all the gackt-likers together in a gackt-likers-club which inevitably ends up overflowing into the random thread.

SETSUGEKKA and ZAN are so good!! I can't stop listening!! *__*
PV for Kamen Rider song Stay the Ride Alive is also out.. that is not written/composed by Gackt though, just like the previous Kamen Rider tie-ins..

Hm.. I've found on livejournal a Gackt interview from 2005 that was finally translated recently.. he talks some more about how he experienced being in Malice, and how he experienced the other members.. it's very interesting! If you want it I can share the link.. ^-^

Me too please!!!

"Stay the Ride Alive" are good, like his previous Kamen Rider's songs; but this one has a low tempo.

Thanks a lot for share it!

I only have a word in my mind about Gackt:

"He is a Perfectionist"

I have mixed opinions about that interview... But I risk to say that it is the evidence that Gackt left Malice Mizer because they weren't "good enough" (imho). At least that is the impression that the interview leaves, but we all know that the majority of the translations are not trustworthy, it can leave a completely different impression in a japanese reader (for that the way he speaks there may sound completely different).

Well, if that's how you want to phrase it XD
Really, Malice Mizer wasn't about virtuoso instrumental performances for the most part. So I could see how someone like Gackt, who practiced fanatically to bring his technical skills to a higher level, might have wanted to go in a different direction, or resented the other members' lack of interest in that stuff. For me, this interview rings true more than any of Gackt's other mentions of Malice Mizer.

What he says about Kami and composing seems kind of dubious. Dude, you wrote one stinking song, you weren't an expert.

I agree with what he says about the band and technicality. I don't understand his "Daddy knows best... and I'm your Daddy ::gaku::" attitude. I think he's looking back on himself with especially rosy glasses.

Thank you for posting the link, that interview was really interesting to read ^^... I didn't know Gackt talked so much about Malice (I only recently stumbled accross the video of him with Kamijo in which he also mentions Malice).

I dunno, maybe he was saying that to Kami after he left the band but before Kami's death, and he had written a few more songs since then.

.... but I do suspect some good ol' Gackt grandstanding there XD ::gaku::

From interview:

Gackt: I also thought at the time there were no other band members who could fascinate so much on stage. I don't know about now, but at the time, everyone really shone well."

What a b*tch... lol Gackt is so cool.

Personally. I just think he was being honest, but at the same time I think he needs to back off a little in some sense.

I completely agree with the members of Malice Mizer not being that skilled. They could compose really well, but the level of technicality looking back, wasnt very high. Their most complicated song in terms of all instruments was probably Bel Air, and tons of musicians out perform them from Japan now quite easily. But it was still composed very well.

And it really shows they probably dont like to practice because nothing Kozi or Mana has shown me they have tremendously increased their skill after 9-10 years. So I could see that being true.

I think it's funny that Yuki was interesting to him lol.

But at the same time, Gackt job isnt that great technically either. They arent bad by any means but they could be alot better. Ren was by far their best bassist and he was really good. Ju-ken I didnt really care for, he was more by the books in bass terms and didnt do too much outside of the box with it. But with the new music Gackt has been putting out, the bass has gotten much better.

Drums are at an all time high for Gackt's band. Junji is their best drummer by far. Ryu was good for alot of fast stuff, but to me it seemed like he tried to play faster all the time even if it didnt call for it. I like his drumming, but I think Junji is just better overall.

As for guitar, its kinda mixed. You and Chacha are ok. They havent dont anything that makes me wowed. They have some really cool sounding parts, but nothing ridiculously technical (though maybe Im spoiled by Deluhi and Versailles). Actually there are tons of other bands that out perform them such as Mucc, Duel Jewel, and I think even bands like Vistlip.

So I get where Gackt is coming from, but at the same time, he is a good composer, but his band could be better, mainly in terms of guitar. Everything else is pretty much great. His songs have been sounding similar as of late sometimes (alot of his newer stuff is completely different from anything he has ever done though so thats good). But Setsugekka for example. Great song, but it does sound like Kagero at the chorus some. Lost Angels as well sounding like Todokanai a little. But then again, he has been making solo music for 10 years and just now has songs that sound a little similar. Id say thats pretty good.

I could definitely see Mana and Kozi being harder to work with. Actually all three of them. Gackt, Mana, and Kozi seemed, by that interview to have all different directions they wanted to go and it shows in all of their solo careers. Personally, Gackt wanting to take them worldwide would have been a good idea imo. Mana doesnt really seem concerned with America even now. They've been to Europe more than once. And Kozi seems like he just wants to stay in Japan.

I completely understand what Gackt is saying there though. At the time, visual kei was more new and they were definitely a big force in it. Now the market is so flooded, I dont think they would stand out nearly as much as they did then.
