Lee's Art Store is closing
What, really? They were convenient although expensive. Is it too much to hope that they might have a going out of business sale?
EDIT: well I went and checked in person, and they DO have a sale... but the locusts have already descended and picked the place clean. As an aspiring locust, this nettles me
Yeah, I only found out a few weeks ago! I went to buy photography supplies a couple of weeks ago and they were already pretty low on goods so I'm not surprised they're super low now. I bought a nice portfolio for half off and a small photography tube and a few other things. There's a portfolio review coming up with the photography program so I'd like to have something physical.
I got the bankruptcy internship! I felt so happy and proud of myself. I went to the interview and the attorney in charge and I had a nice conversation where she asked me to tell her 5 points about myself. Boy, that was interesting!
(#4 was, "I love China." After each point I gave an explanation too XD)
#2 was that I'm really interested in how business and the public interest intersects so when I saw the posting I was intrigued right away because it highlights the relationship between consumers and businesses and financial institutions, and I've taken classes on corporate social responsibility, comparative corporate law, and entrepreneurship to learn all about it. And in China I'll learn even more about Chinese business! #1 is that I've been looking for something "different" this entire semester. (#3, #4, and #5 were all more personal, haha!)
After I did that she said she actually went to NYU for undergrad too and was an intern at the same law firm I was an intern at, so I really stuck out to her. SMALL WORLD!!! She said she knows I got a lot of hands-on work already.
She thought I was great even before she met me and she's impressed that I read classical Chinese novels in elementary school and that I'm going to China in the fall. She also liked that I'm interested in a new and growing field and that I go further and learn about other cultures and I see how things are in China and Peru. She said I'm already in so she'll send me a confirmation email. I would be helping people with bankruptcy cases by meeting with them in interviews, helping the hotline, then helping them file/write things, and attending court hearings at the two bankruptcy courts in NY. What's interesting is that it's super-business/financial related too and I'm interested in the relationship there. It also will allow me to learn about bankruptcy law in general AND other types of law and subject areas (even tax). And bankruptcy can occur because of a disability or domestic violence or some other reason so I'd learn about those laws/areas too.
She said she and the former director started it off small, but now they're helping hundreds of low-income people a year who can't afford to hire an attorney.
She said she gets a lot of corporate attorney volunteers that are amazed with their experience!
I felt so nerdy afterwards. Like, "Wow, I AM awesome, I knew it!" I have another interview in a few hours and I'll make sure to do well in it too, but yeah, I felt great! And Richard was so sweet too and said he's excited to hear all my stories about clients I meet. (He likes getting my emails with "reports" XD).
Then I went to see the play "Long Day's Journey into Night" with my mother and my god it was so repetitive and long-winded and just LONG. How is this one of the greatest American plays ever? I don't understand. XD It's like, yeah, we get it, after a point. And every character has a long monologue/speech about why they are the way they are and blablabla. It's strange as I've liked every play I've seen up to now. I don't think it's a bad play, but after a point it got tiring and my mom even dozed off during the monologues in the second act, haha.
